Not sure, I'll wait for Living In The Past to chime in, but I believe if it has the pintle hitch, it did not have the step.

This is what LIVING IN THE PAST said:

"I have a technial bulletin from 62 that states soft top models witn no longer have the pintle hook standard and for dealers not to report it missing. Unlike other items no VIN was listed as a time it changed. Only two things about 100% sure of. Hard top models never came with a tailgate and cruisers with a tailgate did come a rear step. My very early 61 hard top did have a pintle with eye bolts for the trailer safety chains. I also believe just because a cruiser came with pintle hook that didn't mean it had the trailer light wiring with a plug".

odd, first off because the step is pointless when the tailgate is down.
secondly, we have what appears to be factory trailer plug and eyebolts (although no pintle, but a ball hitch) on a factory softtop with tailgate.

It is odd. Weekend at the cabin with grandkids I really need to stay off my phone. I missed the word "not" as tailgate meant no rear step. Like you side it would be point less.:whoops: Need to go back and edit my post.:o

As for your trailer light plug and eyebolts not to hard to explain. Seen this before. Only real use for a Pintle hook is with a military trailer. Seen the pintle hook removed and eyebolts left for safety chains. Any sign of of a L shaped bracket with trailer ball? As for the trailer light jack it could have been used but guess something else was added and the old monster military plug was just left. Not many have a OCD and go to the effort to find the correct plug to go with that jack.:bang:

Can anyone tell me why spellcheck keeps highlighting the word pintle? Only why I know how to spell it.:meh:

yup, pintle is long gone, replaced with a ball hitch, leaving the eyelets and the trailer plug

The reason is ... We are not smart enough to make it not do it... The phones are smarter than us :)

Funny I went back to check ... I could have swore your post said 'not' when I read it ... Maybe I just expected and glanced over... However ... I now realize that your quote was here as well :)

Just checking the crossmember I plan on using on my 25 I found out it has fixed nuts for the wide rear steps. I believe this was off a 63 or 64. Did your 62s have fixed nuts for the bumperettes? I'll check a couple of early FJ40s I have.

2FJ40-15956 has the fixed nuts for both the bumperettes and rear step.
