don't mind cutting up my bed, i want to use 14" dt's mounted nearly vertical, until i can afford the bilsteins. i really like woody's setup although i will be putting a seat back there. just wondering what everyone else did. i'll probably end up using square tubing because i don't have a tubing bender... show me watcha got!

thanks everybody.

sorry no pics yet, hopefully we will have some this weekend. I plan to use two u-shaped pieces of steel, plate the inside of the frame, cut two square holes in the floor and make a box to cover the top of the shocks to cut down on noise and keep stuff from getting on the inside of the cruiser. It will be somewhat like what you see when you click on the link under tech links: Brian's front shock towers.

The upper mount is 1.25” tubing that form the upper mount with tabs welded to it. The vertical tube attaches to a crossmember on the frame. The horizontal top tube has a flange that bolts to a piece of angle iron that is spot welded to the inside of the fender. \

pic of angle iron inside fender

pic of almost finished product.. note that I haven’t made the boxes to cover the shocks yet.

hope this helps….

i was thinking about somehow using those ford shock towers in the rear with a mounting system somewhat like his (http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=435502)
I said it on that thread and I'll say it again. that is a TON of leverage on the stock X member.

It does help to know shipping and how big a stamp you need to use..

kinda a lame concern in some respects, but as I have been thinking about doing something similar with my shocks, I still worry about getting mud and water all inside the tub since mine is still a daily driver. I was thinking of putting a shifter boot or CV boot around the shocks to seal the opening for them through the tub. just one more idea for doing this..

cheers-
Dustin

eh mine's a daily driver to... i'm not to concerned though.

your bound to get dirty wheeling...

i'm ordering a set of ford shock mounts and will see how things pan out.
