I have an FJ60 that I would like to retrofit with three-point belats from an 89 FJ62. I have the belts and my truck has the threaded upper mounting hold. The bottom mounting point is clearly marked on the brown wheel well cover. I know I will have to do a bit of cutting to mount the tensioner. Any thoughts? Also, the belt has retreated into tensioner, and I can't relieve the tension to pull the belt to complete the mount. Any advice on this issue? I'm reluctant to open the tensioner housing unless I absolutely have to. I'm more than a rookie here! Thanks in advance.

There was/is a recall on the rear seat belts in 86 and 87 60 series trucks. You might take advantage of that.

My belts were replaced in 1994 via factory recall but they still get stuck and it's like impossible to get the mechanism to free the belt.

The belts have a pendulum type switch in them that locks the belt from unspooling when the case experiences high accelleration (decelleration really) or is not in it's normal, level orientation. My advice would be to hold the case steady in it's normal orientation, and the belt should unlatch.

Post up pics of your install and let us know what you end up using for a trim covering, if anything. I've been thinking about this mod but I don't want it looking unfinished.

2mbb Thanks for the heads up. I've installed one belt. I used a dremel with cutting wheel to cut the retractor hole. I used the front trim section, the section near the seat, from the Fj62. I cut down the inner panel from the 60 to meet with 62 trim. The upper section along the rear window is also from the 62,but I think the 60 trim along the window will work if you just broaden the notch to accomodate the shoulder belt. I'd provide photos, but I'm not savvy enough with the computer. Thanks.
