Hello MUD,

I need to buy a new rear (middle row) seatbelt assembly for my 1999 100 series. The belt would be for the driver side passenger. My question is if i purchase the new seatbelt assembly, can i install it myself or does the inner spring mechanism need to be preloaded like the front seat belts? If it does need to be preloaded, is that something i can do myself or does that require a trip to a Toyota dealership? Thanks for your help!

I think it would come as an assembly, pre wound
1 bolt holding the assembly to the seat frame

you going new or used?
which color?

Sweet! that's good news for me. Thank you. I'm going to go with a "new to me" gray belt.

I'm thinking you will need to remove the bottom plastic cover to access the belts
never took 1 apart so not sure

A couple of things. Not sure about the rear belts but the front ones are no longer available from Toyota. Also, the front ones have some very delicate yellow connectors for the airbag system. They don't just plug in and out, there's a snapped hinge cover that needs to be pried open before you can unplug it. Don't ask me how I figured this out...

There are a few companies out there that will service/repair a seatbelt, with relatively quick turnaround. You remove yours, send it in, they will repair the retraction system, a faulty clip, even replace the actual belt with newer material. I know some people here have had good results with it, so there is that option available. A quick search on the topic should be enough to garner a recommendation from another forum member(s).

Any advice on replacing the center seatbelt in the 2nd row? The previous owner must have owned a honey badger that completely ripped through the belt.
