Could somebody look at their fj40 rear heater and follow the wiring up under the dash to find out where it plugs into? It shouldn’t be this confusing!!!!!

My 74 had a pigtail coming off of wires that plug into the fan switch if I remember correctly. That may not be totally right due to the fact I also have a rear fan switch. Bit was pretty simple to find and hook up though, it was all plug and play on mine.

Right near your hazzard branch and courtesey light switch wires. Rear heater fan wires are L & LR together in a female bullet. Front switch is a flat rubber plug with 3 wires( LW, LB, L)

FYI
There is an inline 10A fuse up near those branches. I think it is turn related.

Thru 73 model the rear heater had it's own switch. After that it worked on high speed of the front blower. Been many years since I added a rear heater to my 68. As I remember the rear heater switch got it power from the wiring for the front heater switch. It was all plug and play. Heater may have been from a 71 or 72. This was in the eighties and just remember I got the rear heater and wiring from a wrecking yard.

My 10/72 is wired like this, 2 speed rear heater with its own switch.

Ok Raymond, I dug out a 71 rear heater fan sub-harness. It runs in between both hoses. Note the male bullet that connects to the main harness and rubber plug to the switch.

It is a two speed fan. I straightened it out.....I was missing that little pig tail off of the wire harness going from the front heater switch that powers the rear heater fan.
