I have a 1987 HJ60 with the rear heater located in the rear of the center console. I need some pictures of how to connect the pipes from the engine to the heater unit. When I got the Cruiser the pipes weren't there. I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to connect the heater up. So if anyone can take some pictures and either post it or e-mail them to me I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks,
Ed

I don't have any pics, but went through something similar with my 62. When I got it, the rear heater had been by-passed under the hood with a short length of heater hose (I would expect something similar in your case), as the steel lines were rusted out.
I ran new heater hose back along the path of the old lines, protecting it with wiring loom and zip-tying it to the old steel lines. I had to take the heater core in to be repaired, as it had a crack in it.

After hooking it all up, it has worked fine for >2 years now, and it throws a ton of heat. Good luck.

Be sure to find out why it was disconnected. I rerouted my rear heater hoses due to a leaky heater core. I'm a wannabe mechanic only so when I asked the shop how much to fix the rear heater they quoted me $1,300!!!

I'm in the same boat with mine. Any way of knowing if the rear heater core leaks before running new lines? I'd like to get that unit working again. I have a new baby coming and it'd be nice to get that rear heater blowing something other than cold air!:frown: The fan works no trouble, though!

I pulled my core out to flush it, and thats when I found one of the tubes was cracked.

IIRC it isn't that hard to get down to it and take it out. Remove rubber lines under truck, remove center console (don't forget to pull the knobby thing off the heater valve lever first), then the core is pretty much exposed and pulls out. Might have to remove the blower unit too, but not a biggy.

Hmmm, do the HJ60s (I see we are talking an 86 and an 87) have the heater under the console, or the pass seat? If pass seat, then your experience will differ.
