-- FAWK!

So, my 60 is old -- like 253K miles old -- but I love her.

The rear hatch is now locked shut, and I don't know what to do.

When I put the key in the cylinder, it won't budge. I've even tried going from the inside of the hatch and playing with the lift-lock-thing, and nothing -- i get it nice an high, etc., and nothing.

Thoughts?

It's driving me mad -- it really is.

THANKS!

I'd have to sit down and look at mine but isn't there a service panel that you can unscrew and take a better look inside?

Have

HAve a fresh key cut from the best key you have, load the keyhole up with WD40, let it sit, and use the new cut key. It may have corners that will budge the tumblers a little better than a worn one.

That's the only thing other than replacing the tumbler/locking mechanism with one from a junker and carrying two keys.

Someone may know better...

thanks for these ideas -- really. i'll try the wd40 thing.

the service panel is inaccessible -- i have an aluminum dog box back there making things a MESS -- !!

My lock was seized. Took off the access panel (with the handle on it, maybe?), unclipped the linkage, popped off the lock cylinder retaining clip, pushed the cylinder to the outside of the hatch, soaked it in pblaster. I think you will need to get past that dog box, undo the panel, undo the linkage from the cylinder, and then pull the appropriate linkage to release the hatch. Fold the rear seat down, push the dog box forward, & get back there!

Dude! I have the same problem, except backwards. My rear hatch wont lock. :(

Never never never use WD 40 in a lock, it eventually turns to concrete. You want LPS1, a greaseless lubricant locksmiths use.

What? I have sprayed locks with WD40 for decades, always works for me. I don't like some of the lock spray stuff as it leaves a black residue on my key and then on me and whatever I'm wearing.

At least the WD-40 keeps the rust away...
