Your response doesn't make sense. "driver, driver's passenger"? By "left" do you mean driver's side?

Sorry... Drivers side and Passenger are independent... got caught up in my own thoughts. So Left (drivers) and right (passenger) are separate. RIGHT is also rear hatch. Correct original post... too many things going on... LOL

Got it. So driver side front, driver side rear are one. Passenger front, passenger rear, and hatch are the same?

Glad to see this thread come up as it was posted in the Facebook 100 series group.

Not sure what causes it, but mine only act up in warm weather, anything above 75ish. All locks will stop working EXCEPT the ones in direct sunlight.

This is a good video for those trying to figure out how to take apart the door panel. Takes about 3-4 minutes once you get the hang of it.

Pretty commonly known issue. Old lock motors that are on their last leg due to corrosion or other age related issues cause increased resistance. This cause motor to not want to function. Add the added resistance of hot wires from hot weather and things only get exacerbated. Solution is usually to replace the motors.

However, there is the few times where it is also the lock sensors (Drivers door, front passenger, hatch) suddenly having issues and then not communicating the position of the lock to the alarm/immobilizer. This then sets off the alarm when you attempt to unlock the doors. I have been attempting to troubleshoot that issue for a few months now with little luck.

Thanks for the write up! I just replaced my rear hatch actuator, which worked about 30% of the time, and it's working great now! I did make a mistake with ordering my motor, and the new one did not have the brass key that I needed. I was able to pull the one off the old motor by using a pair of wire cutters to hold it while I tapped on them with a hammer. Then I soldered it onto the shaft on the new motor. Just FYI in case someone runs into the same problem. It only added about ten minutes, including finding the key in the large flower pot in which it landed when it popped off. 🙄

Wasn't there also some success using Camry actuators and switching a gear?

Agreed, @mrsmiff, can you provide a link to the $2 motor replacement part?
I only replaced the rear hatch motor so far, since the PO did the four doors. For the hatch at least, I needed the motor with the little brass key on the shaft, like the one shown here. It's five bucks in this listing, but that's about all the time I'm gonna spend right now searching "Toyota door lock actuator motor" on eBay for you. YMMV.

I was thinking how this is one of the strangest repairs for the 100 series, as far as the range of cost. If fixing all 5 "doors": $10 just replace motor. $250 replace (maybe???) with Camry actuators. $600 replace with Denso Land Cruiser actuators from rockauto. $1700 replace with dealer parts. $2500+ have the dealer do the repair.

$10 to $2500, ....let me do the math... is like 5,000,000 percent!!! (give or take a few decibel places....)
: )

That's a good point. I'm available at 2/3 of dealer cost, if anyone wants theirs replaced. :)

I did this fix on my rear hatch and it held up for a while but all of a sudden quit working after a terrible noise. I am pretty sure I am going to just bite the bullet and order a new actuator. Does anyone have the part number for the rear hatch actuator? I can't seem to find it. thanks!

Here is the part number in case anyone else needs it, Toyota 69790-60070 Door Lock Control Assembly
