Sorry, writing this from my phone. I had the intention to replace the pickup and sending unit when I pulled the gas tank. My new issue is I can't find the pickup at my local parts store or RockAuto.com. Any suggestions?

Spector or Man a Fre can help if you cant find them anywhere else. Also try cruiserparts.net, they have every part (used) from 40s to 60;s, and now I think they do 80"s, also.
You need to see if you can get that thing over here so we can put it on the lift and see what we can do about the rust. That looks pretty serious.
