OK, now four cruisers I know of have a rear speaker issue. I'm talking about the little speaker and amp in the back of the car. Mine a 97, dad's a 95, and two friends both 96s all have the same problem. Since these are the only 80's I've been able to compair to I don't know if the problem is more wide spread.

So the problem is the speaker doesn't play for a dollar......it does play just not as it should. Yes it is a "sub" but no there is no bass, and you have to turn the volume way up just to hear it play. Now the amp has been changed with a new toyota and still the same....the speaker no, because even at my cost it's still over $100. I did try a 6 1/2 infinity kappa I have out of my stock pile and still the same weak output. I even hooked the amp and seapker from my 4runner, that by the way puts out great bass for a 5" factory bass driver, in it's place and still the same weak crap. Is there a wiring issue? I read all good with a voltmeter but I do not have an oscilloscope so I can't really be sure of all the signal inputs.

I just would like to know if I can get it to work as it should, or was this a factory type defect/common problem....before I install my 2005 toyota nav head unit and amp as I already have an infinity bass link hooked up.

It is not a "defect" it is just the way they are.

Get a real system :flipoff2:

ps..how was wheeling?

I was contemplating installing an aftermarket amp and sub in that place. Has anyone done this? I was thinking of using an 8" sub. I've gotten past the desire to have my sub heard for miles, and I just want a little more low-range to complement the eclipses's I installed this past weekend. I've already got a 250W amp, so I just need to pick up a sub. I think I'll pick one up an see if I can't build some sort of enclosure for it. The plan is to have it look factory from the outside.

Bear-

if you're referring to the "speaker" in the cargo area with its own sub, that is a subwoofer, not a normal speaker, therefore, not normal speaker sound.

Arya-

I put an 8" Rockford Fosgate in there. Installed via my own hack job of cutting the factory braket up and using some MDF. Not fancy or ideal, but works for my none audiofile ears. Factory amp. No pics. In the next couple weeks, I will be putting in new head unit and will at that time put in an amp to power the sub. Will take pics then.

Cool, that's what I was thinking about doing. Building a box out of MDF and then rigging it so the stock bracket holds it in place, putting the stub behind the grill. We'll see how it goes.
