Hello Gentlemen,

Opinion and advise needed.... How short can a rear driveshaft really be ? My slow moving project is a 1962 FJ40 with a Quad Cam Toyota V8... this is NOT going to be a hardcore rock crawler, but a nice streetable vehicle that I will take 4wheeling... it will most likely have a 4in lift with 33in tires.

Thanks,

min 18 to 19" without vibes.. but that is pushin it..

What is the angle from your tcase output to your pinion?

Bruce brings the very important question to the mix.

If your angel is inside of 15 degrees, you should not have any vibration issues at all, even if the shaft is shorter than 18”.

I had an 18" CV driveshaft. Worked well without any issues. Just make sure the pinion is pointed in a straight line to the tcase.

Welcome back Bruce! Good to see you in a LC again..

Thanks for the input Guys.... I should end up with about a 18in CV rear shaft... The next step is the diffs.. I'm going to change the front to a left side diff based on the trans and transfer I will be using....

what tranny and transfer?
