You can definitely transplant the parts. Hopefully these images will help. Your spring mechanism is very bent. PM me if you need more photos or spares.

This is where the "pin" engages and disengages the cup holder upon close/open respectively. There is no spring. Just the pivot on the bottom of the cup holder sliding assembly.

Bend your spring as such (please excuse the Chronomaster) should close and lock correctly thereafter:

@CanadianRockyCruiser , many thanks--will give this a shot tomorrow night, and thanks for demonstating the transplant-ability of the assorted bits!

@CanadianRockyCruiser , thanks again for the pics—finally dug in there tonight while the Volvo oil drained and discovered the bottom locking mechanism’s middle piece is MIA.

got any applicable spares? If not I’ll order a grey one—thanks again!

Y’all are killing me by saying you don’t use it. Me and my wife carry water cups everywhere, so if we run through a drive thru, we always have to shift cups to the rear cup holder to make room for sodas.

Mine was sticking because of a spilled soda of some sort. I just cleaned mine all out and sprayed some silicone spray on there to get it sliding again.

Ha! That never even occurred to me. We usually roll with small-ish water bottles, so if we go through a drive-through and need to do a beverage shuttle, we just chuck the water bottles on the passenger side floorboard or tuck them in between our seats to make room for coffee or coke.
We've got three small kids, so things in the back seat are usually pretty active--not sure I'd want to stick a paper cup anywhere near that cup holder in the next few years. . . but it is a good idea to use it as a fall-back bottle/cup holder. . .

@m0nkie , new ones (grey only) are available -- 58803-60012-B1

I'm interested in a new one too if anyone is selling. Mine can't hold the cups anymore. just falls out

I do have one spare. I'm happy to sell it for $25, but I think shipping might be prohibitive because I'm in Canada and you guys are in the US...might be better to order a new one from a US supplier, or check the local junker.

The tan/gray faceplate is removable, so I swapped mine from one out of a local junkyard. I wouldn’t worry about the color if your faceplate is in good shape and you’re only replacing the internals.

Awesome—thanks, @CanadianRockyCruiser —I already checked a couple specialty places for used, and one will only sell this as part of the whole console away, and the other was pretty proud of their tan ones—I guess I can circle back and ask them about a grey one, which perhaps they’d part with for something less than retail...
Thanks for the info needed to confirm that a replacement is what’s needed!

Bought a new grey one and a bunch of oil filters from McGeorge. Took about three minutes to swap the beige trim with the grey and install. Might seem like a small thing but it’s sooo nice not to see an ajar cup holder every time I look in the back—thanks for the help, especially all the detail from @CanadianRockyCruiser

@mdcoa, since you’ve had the cupholder apart recently, do these black rubber glides look familiar? They fell from my rear cupholder about 6 years ago, and have been riding around in my glovebox since. Not quite sure where they fit into the assembly.

They don’t, but I’ll try to go out to the driveway tonight and poke around and let you know what I discover...

Definitely don't make a special trip, I've got along Ok without them for a long time (actually amazed I haven't lost them). Appreciate the offer to look though.
