Hi all. New to the forums. Just picked up a J100 after years of wanting one. I had a question about securing large heavy cargo. I searched the forums and didn't find anything that related to this (unless I need to get good).

How heavy duty are the latch points for the seats in the rear cargo area? I collect and restore arcade games and was hoping they'd be heavy duty enough for me to secure a machine to with a ratchet strap while it's laying down. With the rear seats removed I can fit most games in it since there's over 6 feet of flat floor, but it'll slide around without having some sort of secure tiedown. It just needs to be enough to keep it from sliding

They're heavy duty enough to decelerate a passenger in a collision without the seat coming loose. They may fail if you hit an immovable object at a high rate of speed with a heavy game strapped to them, but they will be fine for using to keep the game from sliding around during normal transport.
 
The seat brackets are M10 bolts and intended to hold back a person or two plus the bench in a serious crash. They should hold most any arcade system you throw in there.

Even just the M6 bolts on the factory cargo D-rings will hold some serious weight before failure. Shear strength is something like 1000-2000 lbs per M6 bolt, not factoring in the friction from the lashing striker base to the floor.

TLDR: Unless you're grossly exceeding the payload of the car, even just the OEM "luggage striker" points are probably fine. The M10 seat anchors? Pssh, totally fine.
 
i'll throw this in as it's kinda sorta relevant: When loaded for "overistering" (overland toursting as that is what it is), I cover the entire load zone (behind front seats all the way to tail gate) with a load restraining net.

For the forward net securing points, I removed the outboard side of the rear seat track bolts, bought some relatively high load drings off amazon and mounted using the same hardware.

Hopefully will help prevent me from getting decapatated in an accident/roll over (never experienced....but hey).

Thanks all, I always go overboard with tiedowns. The cargo nets are a great idea. Looking forward to putting it to work. Historically I've used a trailer on a rented pick-up. Sometimes I'll have to drive 100+ miles to get something, so being able to load it in the back would be better than hauling a trailer that distance.

Got some photos? I currently use some ratchet straps, but am interested in an upgrade if it works.
 
Awesome. I'm just a few years too young to truly appreciate the days of the arcade but it's cool to see folks still keeping everything alive.
Thanks! I'm in my 30s now so I want to re-live these experiences and, most importantly, ensure I can keep as many of these running smoothly for others to enjoy. After I fix them up and enjoy them for a year or so I end up selling to public arcades. Typically the ones I pick up are in derelict condition destined for the scrap heap. The limiting factor with keeping them running is the CRT monitors. Those things have a limited lifespan, little to no preserved repair documentation, non existent replacement parts, and not all games can be swapped to LCDs. Most of the people who used to repair old CRTs are either long since out of business or dead, sorry to say.
 
Rather than starting a new thread, thought I'd put a somewhat-related question here:

-what is the part number for the factory tie-down points in the cargo area? Just bought a JDM 100 and it has the front two, but the rear ones aren't there--just shiny bolts .. . I just spent about half an hour staring at partsouq diagrams and came up empty handed. . .
