Nice bumper!

Nice bumper!

You didn't have to delete your post. As to your comments, the single swing out he is building is at my request. I wanted a single swing out that places the tire in the center of the truck. I know it's old school but that's what I wanted.

The latch mech is sweet and works great. I agree the handle bar bit might need a little cleanup, but this is a work in progress and Chris has been awesome so far in the design process. And honestly I like the round tube against the bumper. It's unique and custom.

Chris' approach so far has been to start with the solid and well built bumper and let people customize from there. I think that's a pretty good approach.

ntsaint, I have a center swing out and also prefer it!

Action Fab, Nice video! Latch mechanism looks solid. My only concern as a buyer would be the pivot point side of the carrier. No question about the heim joints. I'm wondering if the plate it is mounted to, is strong enough when the carrier is fully open, with a 35" tire, 60" high lift jack, gas can(s)... or propane... or a table on that swing out.... because that is what many do.

I deleted my post since it was a little harsh & opinionated for this thread. You have valid points ntsaint. I will leave it at that.

As with anything custom built, time will tell. Action Fab seems more than confident that his bumper will have absolutely no issues.

I also prefer a single swing out, but have a need for 2 on long distance trips to carry gear.. My Slee bumper allows me that option. Plus, one long swing out can be cumbersome in tight spots.

This bumper looks butch from the pics. Especially that carrier- What thickness material do you have going on around this beast?

Your hold/release mechanism for the spare tire is very clever, and I actually like the idea of using a handle bar grip for the lever- They are robust, cheap, replaceable- Nothing wrong with any of that

I do have to admit though that the price is steep for what your offering especially for the spare tire carrier add-on. I will make an assumption that there is a lot of time into that system alone since every piece has multiple complex knotches, multi-axis bends, long welds, and fixtures for brackets, but I think with the abilities that you have you can simplify it up quite a bit to keep you look, functionality, and lower your price.

Have you tested your release hold mechanism against debris? It was hard to tell if there was an path for it to clear out... The ice build up that can happen up here in da midwest, it could be a pain if that is not thought thru....

Understand, and I certainly wasn't trying to be harsh in return. I'm one of the least qualified people on here when it comes to real world experience with these systems.

In the end I think the feedback here will wind up being very productive, and the end result will be a solid product.

I think it's clear that he is a talented and quality fabricator. However even at that, $3000 is a hefty sum to pay. Especially if you have to go to Pep Boys and buy screw in cheap license plate lights and then stop off at the BMX shop for a hand grip.

I'm actually very happy with the bumper I have, but it's always nice to see new things come to the market.

I'm guessing at the $3000 price because of powdercoating, tax and shipping. Maybe a local "cash, no receipt" price would make the whole thing more attractive. The problem is there are other high quality bumpers on the market for cheaper right now.

Yes. This is all braced straight into the frame. I have built a number of swing out carriers with this design for other vehicles and have yet to have anyone with a problem the material the bumper is built from is 3/16 hot rolled steel. It is more than adequate to hold a 35" tire as well as a multitude*of other gear from a 30"-60" suspended fulcrum. I build linked suspensions using this very same rod end and material. They see loads far surpassing anything this bumper will face.

Feedback, whether good or bad is always helpful.

The grip is included I just didn't have it in my hand in the video. I'm sure I can include some little lights. It's not like it's a tough task to mount a simple plastic license frame either. I'm aware that this bumper isn't the cheapest. It doesn't fit too many people's budget. I don't have the time or desire to pump out too many of these either. Like I've explained, I have a number of other custom projects going at all times that require my attention too. What I aim to do is give you guys another option. To solve some complaints my customers have voiced with what is currently available and to produce a great alternative with the option for custom touches.

One thing that is unanimous between everyone who has seen these. They all agree I need to bring them to the market. They will also tell you, I have not been overly enthusiastic because I know it is a very time consuming design that is expensive and complex. But like everything I do in my business, I push the boundaries and try to differentiate myself from the competition. I have made some pretty phenomenal breakthroughs in the jeep world that have gone onto become awesome products and build standards for many. I'm just a one man show. I love to solve problems and push the limits of design as well as function.

Can't wait to see a couple of these at the 4th annual HIH event. We can drink beer and have some quality, joyful bumper chat. Can't wait.

I somehow missed quoting this.

I will not sacrifice the design or cut corners to meet a desired price point. There was once a point in this country that people valued quality over price. I still see the world from those eyes. I'm very happy with my material choice, arm design, pivot, latch, and my lock out mechanism. It does require a great deal of labor, you're correct. I do not see the other bumpers on the market as poor quality. Many of them are pretty trick actually. I have a different design that may meet the needs of a select few better.

As for the latch. I am not sure what ice may do as I have yet to test these in those conditions. I don't imagine there will be an issues though as the bottom is open to allow water and debris to bass freely.

At the end of the day this is great for the 100 Series market as a whole.

With how popular the 100 is becoming, I'm guessing we will see a large number of new vendors/products being rolled out over the next few years.

Of course I am admittedly picky.

You better be very picky if you're throwing 2500 at bumper/carrier.

If it as nice as it's being made out to be, it's definitely got my interest.

Oh, he is. I liked working with him for that reason. He's a good critic to judge my work and it felt good to meet and surpass his expected level of quality. It is customers like him that challenge me to raise the bar.
