So I'm looking for a rear tire carrier bumper. I run my truck without mudflaps. I need to be able to occasionally tow a project car home on a U-Haul trailer. I would like an integrated hitch, as taking the factory one on and off for every tow job is getting quite annoying.

So I'm thinking Slee or IPOR, but from what I see, neither offers a built-in hitch. I'm looking at the Kaymar because I can pick one up locally at Man-A-Fre without shipping, but they are pretty big bumpers - do they get hung up offroad? Also, they don't include any bottom sliding protection that I can see, nor do they offer quarter panel protection stock.

I appreciate the design on the 4x4labs unit, but I'm not a fan of the way it looks - just a bit too small looking for me. Any thoughts on this bumper? I'm open to it, just not my favorite in terms of appearance.

Just looking for some advice. Thanks in advance guys!

sounds like you already know what you need and want.

I like the form and function of the 4x4 labs. i would like it a bit better if it had more 1/4 panel protection similar to the Hanna.

Well I'm more wondering if Slee has an option with a hitch (shot them an email). Can the Kamar and 4x4labs hitches be used for what I'm thinking or is that too much weight?

Does anyone else have any input on the Hanna bumper? It seems he might be local as well. I suppose I could probably get a hitch integrated for the right price... Looks like a nicely designed unit - how does it compare to the others?

That's a nice looking bumper. Doesn't look like it's built to be used as a HD tow bar though?

I intend to pull my Coleman camper with it. Would it serve your purpose? I dunno but if you call Mike and tell him what you want, betcha he'll accommodate.

IPOR with 4x4Labs swingouts

The IPOR bumper allows you to use the stock trailer hitch if you want to. They're only using 4x4 Labs swingouts now too.

All the bumpers listed are top notch (from what I have seen/read, don't have one), my personal preference would be the 4x4 labs or Bump-it.

Post up pics and report back on your decision. :)

Folks need to familiarize themselves with Sele's site. Not only good products but good tech articles too.

The receiver system is hella stout and allows room to mount the aux tank:

Did you see mine?

I have not seen a swingout bumper with better clearance and it is very beefy. I am very happy with it.

I agree with all the above. I like most aspects of my Labs bumper, but it would have been nice to have a few custom modifications on it (for example quarter panel clearance is extremely tight, and there is not a flat surface for mudflaps). These mods weren't feasible since I couldn't take the truck to California.

Mike at Bump It Offroad makes a similar bumper at a fraction of the price and he is more than willing to accommodate customization unlike most of the major bumper fab shops. I have a set of his sliders and I am very satisfied with them. I'd so business with him again in a heartbeat.

Lol - I didn't see that :)

That might be the way for me to go...

You may want to contact Octavio62 her on mud. He has a fab shop in east LA, built me a cutom bumper for 1/2 the price of the bolt on ones that is very beefy, has a tow hitch, has quarter protection etc.

My 4x4 LABS has saved my quarter panel at least once. The side wings are trim but very sturdy.

Doesnt hurt to contact the vendors. IPOR has accomodated several request for hitch options.
Now if you ask nice im sure they would entertain some sort of 1/4 protection as well.

The biggest issue as I understand it with offering a hitch on std production units is the requirement for it to be rated (class III, etc) and that cost extra driving your end price up. Now if your ok accepting liability that this is a post production addition that is not a standard offering then viola, it can be had.

I have a hitch reciever in my IPOR my wife wanted one so we asked them to install one and they accomodated with an excellent built in reciever.

The last time I emailed Bumpit, they were working on a higher clearance bumper like the 4x4labs. You might want to look into it.

If I am not mistaken, the new "high clearance" bumper from Mike is the one in the link on post #5. ;)

The Kaymar is capable for towing anything that an 80 can tow. I can attest to that. But it's not a rock crawling bumper. Clearance is worse than stock, but protection is much better. For towing, you won't do better, but for playing in the rocks 4 x 4 Labs is about the best for protection and clearance. Rear cross member must be cut for it's installation, though. No experience with the 4 x 4 Labs towing capabilities.
