i was trying to do my rear brakes today and ran into a prob. The rotor on the truck looks like it has a collar on it. The one I got doesn’t look like it does. Pretty sure I got the right oem replacement rotor. Is it fused to something? All the stuff I read and looked at seems like this should not be so hard. Not sure if I need to just beat on it harder? It’s a 94 and the new rotor part # is 42431-60171. I put some penetrating oil and hit it with a little wire brush and I don’t see a seam where I think there should be one.

I am confused.

Go to the hardware store and get some long bolts or threaded rod to put in the threaded holes in the rotors. Do the sides evenly and it will pop off once it's past the parking brake shoes. You likely need to adjust your parking brake as well then.

The collar is deceiving. I made the same mistake when I did mine.

I think the bolt is M8 x 1.25

Thx guys. Used my 2.5 lb hammer and had my buddy rotate the other tire while I beat on the backside of the exposed part of the rotor. Had to keep it even so it didn’t bind and it came right off. Looked like 1 solid piece before it broke apart. Having another cup of coffee and about to do the other side.

Thanks guys.

Yea if you back the parking brake off thru the slot it will come right off, put new one on then adjust parking brake back to new rotor

Both rotors went on and off without adjusting e brake. I probably need to adjust them because my e brake is pretty weak. I checked the e brake pads and they were good so I didn’t even think about changing them. The first rotor was just rusted on I think. The new one went on no prob. The second one came off with just a couple of taps, super easy. It’s all back together and now I have new rotors and pads all around. Anyone know what the break in procedure is? All oem Toyota pads and rotors.

Thanks

A stuck right rear brake rotor is almost 100% proof that youve blown the head gasket. Moisture from the exhaust is bad enough but the HOAT formulations of most modern coolants also accelerate wear once vaporized and deposited onto bare metal (like the brake rotor). You typically will notice poor braking, mushy brakes, and a parking brake that needs adjustment.

It was the left, drivers side, that was stuck on. Just rusted to the hub, car was sitting for a while before I bought it. I think my head gasket is ok.

Wait is this a joke?
