I am currently working on fixing all the door rattling on my 76 FJ40 and had a question about the rear ambulance door hinges. The bushings on my passenger door hinges are shot and I was wondering if it was possible to replace them or if I would need to buy another set. The door is out of alignment and adjusting the hinges doesn't help as the pins wobble in the hinges. I have all new door seals and strikers, but I they won't solve the problem unless I can get the hinges in better shape. Thanks in advance,

Ian

One more thing, I am looking for the striker (not the guide) for the rear ambulance doors, it is missing and I don't really want to pay $55 for a new one on CCOT, I noticed that there is a 73 FJ40 at the UPull that was mentioned on another thread and wondered if anyone noticed if they were still there.

Huh, good idea, I guess I just assumed that they were discontinued since they were so expensive on CCOT. I'll check.

Thanks,

Ian

Here is a clue for ya.

Beno works for American Toyota, so a little self serving on his part. That said ... when I did my project I found many parts were still available from Toyota and cost much less than $OR, CCOT, Manafre, etc. As club members we get 20% off list (I think, something like that), so shopping at AmToy should always be your first stop when you can't find what you need used, or you must have it new.

See what Onur (Beno) can do for you on the bushings. They are also available from CCOT.

As far as the door latch/handle (striker?), if they are still available from Toyota I would get theirs. The latch from CCOT is junk ... personal experience.

Actually, it's an FJ55 at the UPull. Not much body-wise in common with the FJ40.

Says the man who does not know the difference between an FJ80 and an FZJ80 and proceeds to harangue others for the difference.

At least get your facts straight (again, as usual): 25% off list on OEM parts.

Is it really that much? I just pay your cohorts and I'm grateful. And I only missed one detail on the FJ80 vs. FZJ80 ... which was sad because I did know better.

Is this possible?

When I rode in Jon's I couldn't hear any door rattling over the road noise, wind, engine, tyres, bumping & grinding & humming. However, I knew the doors had to be rattling because I had to hold the door shut with both hands when we did left turns.

But when I took out the hearing aids it was quiet like my LS400. :flipoff2:

I know for the front bushings you can order nylon replacements through Spector. ( don't they will break apart in no time.) There is someone on MUD making brass bushings for the front and those might work for the rear as well. I would need to check my hinges to know for sure.

I took a closer look at the rear hinges and I am pretty sure there aren't bushings in the hinges. I think my passenger side hinges are a bit out of whack so I might need to get new ones. When I said "fixing all the door rattling" I really meant reducing it to a point where it doesn't sound like the whole vehicle is going to fall apart everytime I hit a small crack in the road. If I had a garage, I would just take the top off and not worry about it.
