The red wire in the pics (yanked from the interwebs) is powering something else.

Yes, I'm sure it is blue, black, pink.

The three arrows shown in the pic are absolutely correct.
 
To me the photo shows a red wire that goes from the battery post into the little black box the fusible links terminate. I'm guessing the red wire was added as a bandaid to fix one of three links that failed. The red wire looks to be toast as is looks burnt and corroded. The battery post and clamp needs to be cleaned as it looks very corroded as well. My guess if the headlights are switched on everything goes dead because of that battery post. Clean the post good with a mixture of water and a lot of baking soda to neutralize the battery acid. It will foam up as the acid is neutralized. Keep applying until it no longer foams. Then hit the clamp and battery post with sandpaper to get a nice bright finish.
