So I'm smack dab in the middle of my lift, and my damn hoist is frozen. I'm getting a rear bumper anyway, so I'm thinking of just taking the cutting wheel to 'er. Is this a bad idea, what with the spring being under tension and all? PB Blaster has had no effect so far.

I have never had in any luck with those blasted things.

No there is no pressure there to hurt you. You could try spraying and leaving it there for a few days or did you already try this?

I removed my spare tire carrier by cutting it off w/ a grinder about two weeks ago. I had my rear break line pop on me, since I am going to be fixing my rear suspension soon, I cut the s*** out. Use a jack stand to support the spare tire, unless you want it to fall on your head.

Good to know that there's not much pressure there... I'll throw the jack under there, just in case.

Can't really leave it for a few days, as it's sorta preventing me from popping out my old rear shackles... and as I only have 4 jackstands (2-axle, 2-frame), I have to get the rear done before I start on the front. :D

:confused:You still driving on that:D

I had to spray mine with PB Blaster and wait.... It was frozen solid. I didn't want to cut the crossmember up get it out. After a day, it loosened up enough to lower the spare and remove the crossmember.

There is no tension on the chain that holds the spare. Just the weight of the spare.

I removed that whole crossmember that it is attached to and worked on it on my bench instead of having the pb blaster dripping on my head from above me. Your truck won't fall apart with that crossmember out...I had mine out for weeks without any issues. I didn't do any off-roading in that time either though. You can put the crossmember back in after your remove the spare carrier and throw it away.

Remove the four bolts on the frame that hold the crossmember in place. There are two on each side.

Remove crossmember by shoving one side forwards and one side back. It can be done with a tire mounted but it is a PITA.

Spray it with PB Blaster adn by the time you have the front done it should have unfrozen itself.

Cut-off wheel and 30 seconds it is! :D

Off to harbor freight for the tenth time this weekend... :D

Redheads by nature are lazy and like to tempt fate. Yeah, I have been driving it, I had to take the front apart to address my little shim issue and replaced the center pins w/ ones w/ the longer head. I actually am going to finish the rear this weekend. Should not be to bad. I am going to cut away what I can and get on with it.

I am sorry about the shim issue:whoops: no really did not have a clue. I must have misunderstood someone that i asked before i came up.

:DI ordered my new kit from kurt last week

No need to apologize. Is what it is. I'll just be happy when I am done. I have shocks for the rear, so I just need to get it wrapped up. I'd like to get bigger tires, but then again, lately I have had some serious FJ40 envy. I may end up getting the 62 patched up, sell it and get a 40, we shall see.

:whoops:we all have 40 envy......let me know about your 62;)

Well since starting the work on getting the AAL's done and what not, I can honestly say it has probably shed about 5lbs of rust, which makes it lighter, which makes it probably the fastest FJ62 ever, in ohio. :)

Got that fxxxer off. Two pieces of smoking steel on the ground that I had to bitchslap and swear at a bit. :D

Did I mention that i love harbor freight?
