Been trying to get this thing out but I don't have clearance to slide it off the shaft coming from the transmission because of a transmission line in the way. Wondering if I am missing something or do I really need to remove that tranny line? It's winter where I am and I don't have a lift so I'm a bit frustrated at the moment. Any help would be appreciated.

Why are you removing the neutral safety switch?
Won't come out of park?
99.8% of the time it is because of a bad brake light switch.

The R stays illuminated while the car is turned off and the reverse lights remain on. Car won't shift out of first gear in drive. This is what I came up with as the first to try to fix the problem but I am open to suggestions.

What year model cruiser (which transmission)?

Its possible the neutral safety switch is the issue, but it also possible that wiring somewhere in the circuit is the culprit. Do your brake lights work without the key on?

Do you have a trailer plug that has a constant 'hot' wire going to it?

It is a 98 cruiser and I'll have to check on the brake lights working without the key. I do believe it does have a "hot wire" going to my trailer plug. Electrical stuff is very tough for me to wrap my head around so this has been a pita.

IF your brake lights work without the key being on...that is one source of a constant hot wire. Also any constant hot going to a trailer plug. If the N/S switch itself does not turn out to be the problem...then you'll want to look at any constant hot circuits that might be back-feeding the switch.

I don't have an EWD for the 100 series...but maybe someone who does can look at the circuits and see what powers what. I can think of some scenarios where your switch might be fine, but damaged wires could be shorted and feeding the reverse light circuit.

The transmission not shifting out of first...I don't know about. Maybe related to signals fed the ECU with respect what gear it thinks it is in. Make sure your (2nd start) button isn't engaged also.
