Cut a channel with a dremel and use a large flat blade? Tack weld a bolt to the head and then use a wrench. Use the dremel to cut the bolt shaft in the gap between the two parts. All guesses but I've never done the job.

After watching this video (thank you to the guy who posted this!)

I'm thinking of leaving the current bracket and just replacing the inside cylinder

Just swap out the rod, not the whole assembly. Lots of good info here: busted ignition

Thanks that's the info I was looking for. But yes I fixed it by just swapping the rod into the old assembly bracket. Unfortunately Toyota doesn't just sell the rod you have to buy the whole assembly bracket

Just posted on a newer thread, but I am desperate to find someone who knows what they’re doing so I’m repeating it here. I am replacing the rod as a PM on my 05 Land Cruiser. I’m heading to rural Alabama tomorrow. I have everything apart and removed the white plastic piece behind the cylinder, but I can’t get the rod out. I can turn it 180° but it won’t release. Thanks!

Never mind. I got it out. I wasn’t pushing the copper spring loaded plate in far enough to turn it completely upside down. What a waste! The part I ordered wasn’t correct. And the one I pulled out looks fine. I don’t know if later years had a newer design, but it seems thicker in the spot that most of the others tend to break. But if anyone has thoughts on why my ignition is getting partially stuck, I’d love to know. I’m able to jiggle the key to get it to turn.
