2000 LX.....The pulley ?? the fan clutch is mounted to is wobbly and grinding when running. I can grab a fan blade, pull up and see movement of the pulley (where belt sits).

Is that a bad pulley or whatever it is....or water pump? No leaking. Not sure how long this will hang on.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

On the up side, it's not the water pump. The pump is not driven by the serpentine belt, it's driven by the timing belt. The fan rides on it's own bearing that is pressed into a frame work that is attached to the block while clearing all the timing components.

First concern is that the fan not hit the radiator or you're done, second concern is that the serpentine belt does not run off of the pulley and break or you won't go to far either.

If it were me and I had a highway ride home I might consider removing the fan to lower the load on that bearing and drive at night when it's cool and shut it off when stopped. If you can park it and tear it down where factory parts are available, I would do that first.

Are you out somewhere?

Andy, at mechanic shop now. He is looking up a labor price. There is no pulley in the picture you sent. Confused.

Is that part called a "fan clutch bracket"?

I believe it is called fan clutch bracket. The round face with the studs protruding is where the pulley and then fan clutch bolt up so the pulley will hide most of the bracket from view.

Ok thanks

If the belt pulley is wobbling, that sounds like the water pump bearing is shot. John

Not even closely related. The water pump is spun by the timing belt, fan clutch by the accessory belt. The previous posts are correct, the bearing is in the bracket and you'll need the whole assembly. Bolts on the DS bottom are a bit of a bugger to get to...

Here's the latest...

Mechanic is now working on it. I was quoted $125 labor. I got the "fan clutch pulley bracket" from O'Reillys for $124. The brand is called Dorman. Toyota dealer didn't have one and O'Reillys huge warehouse is two miles away. They actually had two in stock. I am also replacing the drive belt. I hope this is all I need to do.

Again I am in the situation where I am very appreciative of the help from you guys and wondering how I can pay you back. I hope I can in some way. Thanks a pile.

Richie

Sounds like you'll be rolling again soon, that doesn't sound like a bad price either it's not a lot of fun.

'MUD sure is a great resource, you can always buy a star if you want to give back, or just check in often and you to will be able to help someone else by passing along the knowledge you gain here and hands on.

Yes, I am on here everyday. Hopefully I can pass something on worth a flip. This mechanic seems to be going around the world to get this done. I see head has taken covers off, small coolant hoses, loosing all coolant. And he ain't happy. :)

The mental image of an angry mechanic covered in Toyota red coolant is worth a flip in my book, lets call it even.

Even it is. Although I'm still in debt.

Due to the loss of some coolant, the mechanic topped it off with green coolant. I was on my way to him with Toyota red but didn't make it back in time. Think I should drain and refill or let her be?

Thanks

Drain and refill. Where are you in Mobile and what shop did you use?

In Saraland. Morans is the name. First time using them cause he was not backed up with work.
