I just installed a new headlight harness from 4crawler. My parking lights are only working with my high beams on, and when I turn the lights off from low beams they stay on...if I switch from low to high(without turning the lights on) they turn off.

I have tried grounding at the battery and at the body, same issue. I think the wiring is backwards (high/low reversed) could this be causing the problem? I would like a confirmation before I start cutting and splicing. My plan was to just live with the dashboard indicator being reversed, but I can rewire the harness if thats the cause.

Just tried swapping the highs and lows with a couple jumpers and the same thing is happening. any ideas/tips would be appreciated

Try shooting an e-mail to 4crawler - he was pretty responsive when I dealt with him. The harness should be pretty much plug and play, but I'm not sure with the 4 headlight setup of a 62. If he had to fab something, maybe he switched some wires. Hopefully RocDoc sees this thread, since he is more intimately familiar with doing the harness for a 62.

I assume when you hook up the harness, you just plug it into one low beam and one high beam socket of the existing harness? Also, are your relays in the right holders?

I forgot to mention that I have the front clip from a 60, so only 2 headlights...maybe thats part of it? I thought the relays were identical, just the wiring was different. I'll check

Nope - you're right. The relays are the same.

When you switched to the 60 front clip, what changes did you make to the factory harness? My guess is that the problem may be there - especially if it got modified from the factory switched ground set up.

I didnt change anything with the harness, but...there was an aftermarket harness driving the inside (high beams?) lights on the truck before hand that i could never get to work. as far as I know it is still switched ground.
anyone know if 62's had 2 sets of plugs for the four lights or was there a jumper with only one plug per side? I am only seeing one plug on each side of the truck.

Is it a switched ground harness intended for Toyotas? (12v to the common terminal on the headlights, the grounding is switched between the high and low terminals to control which filament lights) Most other auto manufacturers used a switched "hot" set-up. (common ground, 12v is switch to either the high or low terminal)

If you have a look at this diagram, it should help you understand how the stock wiring works, and how an upgraded harness should work. I developed an intimate knowledge of the headlight circuitry trouble-shooting my harness.... took about 3 days to figure it out, but this diagram provided the eureka (at 3AM like most eureka moments I get).

Yea somewhere along the line my truck got changed to switched power, switching + 12v to high and low terminals. I'm going to bypass the diode per 4crawler and I should be good. Thanks for the help, I'll find out tomorrow if its worth a s*** :flipoff2:
