Hello there I'm in the middle of the described job in the title and feeling that the water pump matching surface it's not as smooth as I would like.

Would be the OEM gasket enough or its advisable like coat of FIPG?

I did remove all the gold gasket but still not totally sure OEM gasket would be enough and since this its not a thing that I would like to do twice..

Personally I would not be happy with that surface.
I would do my utmost to bring the surface condition up and use the OEM gasket.
If you can't get it cleaner with the aid of a scraper or blade, I might try a very light sanding with a small sanding block (very light and ensure no particles stay in the system) else I would have to resort to an rtv silicone.

Buy a good quality scraper and that will smooth most of that out.

Thanks for replies.. Ende with a razor blade and more razor blade plus wire brush plus sand paper and just OEM gasket.. When I was almost done discover an small leak on my rad ( most likely an involuntary hit from my fight with he timing gear) Big bloomer to say the least.. So that water pump test will need to wait a couple of extra days..

BTW that was the un cleaned surface .. didn't took a pic of how it's end .. hope it holds .. even tho if I have the rad out ..

I'm glad you managed to clean it up and use the OEM gasket.
Pity about the radiator. They can be as tough as nails in one instance and as fragile as a snow flake in another.

Does the oem come with metal impeller? Do you guys use the gasket and also fipg?

hey Tapage, I haven't been following you closely enough lately but do u still have your turbo 2h in Tencha? Or are you sporting the 1hd-t now?

The NWP pump I remove had an metal impeller .. and the Aisin I replace have a metal impeller as you can see in the pics ..

Sure thing .. it's still living in Tencha ( and doing my DD as Marilu it's down waiting rad come from rad shop ) I'm doing both !

For years I only used a razor blade to clean up the surface and wondered why is this so hard. Finally bought a $8 scraper that used the same razor blade type I had used with my hand. It was night and day difference. I felt really stupid that I never bought one before.

I just ordered an oem and it has a plastic one. Is there a difference?
