If you were going to replace your 30yo tranny (mine is a 343) with something from an aftermarket rebuilder (meaning not just your local trans guy, rebuilding yours while it's out of the truck)--who would you go with for something overbuilt that's gonna go another 250k miles and can handle a S/C or T/C? I can think of one or two names, but I don't know what I don't know... Thanks!

Reviving this thread (or hoping to). Any experience with this tranny or others? Looking for something that will go another 250k miles with 35s and a S/C, DD/HWY/Overland...

I was going to suggest the same...if Cruiserbrothers suggests it, then I'd trust it. Definitely nice to use someone that is more familiar with the specific drive train and usages which the 80 demands than just a local guy that "rebuilds" anything that comes through the door.

My impression is this is Rodney's trans from Australia, without the added one-off shipping cost?

Sounds like you might want to talk to atf speed in florida. I bet they can come up with something for you. they do work on a340s for the 2jz market that can handle 3x the power and torque you are looking to make. A340s are similar to the a343 mechanically iirc they share the same internals just different electronic controls.

About 8/9 months ago I was looking for replacement a343 from Cruiser Brothers. From what I understand they source theirs from Wholesale Automatic Transmission in Aus and Wholesale A/T didn't have any nor any coming anytime soon from what it sounded like. They recommend Salim at Legacy Transmission in Hayward, (510) 732-6356 and noted that Salim is the only one in the US they'd recommend for a rebuild of this kind. So I'm going that route with a nomad valve body from CBrothers. Torque convertor will be a one-off item having made.

I think that's Salim's direct #.
