I vote Single Stage as well. Although My Rig has a home Rustoleum Job. The early 60 series (at least my 83) didn't have Clear coat for what it's worth.

So this is the exact same argument I've been having in my head, now there are just more people involved.

Here is the conclusion I have come too. Although, part of me thinks I should go all out with base clear and really do it right. The truth is, I have spent a lot of time to get my rig to an acceptable level, and it is far from perfect. It still has some waves here and there, a couple of bumps, though most of the dings have been filled, there is some really nasty grind marks on the roof (previous owner attempt to stop rust), and so forth. I am not removing the doors and doing the jambs or anything all crazy like that either, so When it comes down to it. I want to be able to wheel this rig and look 'pretty good' doing it.

So I will go with the single stage that matches my factory toyota blue. I learned a lot about body work along the way, so maybe next one will be better and all out. This one was my learning curve. Someday, I will have multiple cruisers, that way I can have a pretty one too.

Blue

If you paint the old girl blue I would paint it as light of shade as you could live with, darker colors will just make you sick if you don't get everything just right. Suggestion: polar white with a blue stripe or accent and don't worry about the door jams

Polar White = Blue highlights used with blue or gray interior
Egg shell White = brown highlights used with brown and tan interior

there is a buildup on here with a tan single stage urethane paint job that was very inspiring for me. basically made my decision for me. let you know when i find it again!!

Hey Mtn. Goat, You know, i want to paint the thing white. I like the look of the white with the black herculiner on the bottom better than blue with black herculiner (no offense to the smurfs out there), but worried about the door jams and such. I'm thinking about going white, and having the shop throw some of it in rattle cans at the same time, then doing my jams later. (I know this is not the preferred method, but think it might work). I have taken the paint most of the way down and have my first coat of primer on, and it's been resanded, a little more work to do on the roof and I should be good to go (Dang snow). So painting white shoudn't be a problem with the darker color underneath, as it is now primarily gray. This will be a cheapo equivalent paint job with all glass left in, although, all the mirrors, vents tailights etc, have been removed.

I plan to be in the same boat soon and have the same concerns/questions... I will be watching this thread.

Ok, so to help make up my mind anyone want to post a pic of polor white with the bottom portion of the doors and up over the wheels lined. I know I've seena few
