Is it possible to "re-key" the locks on early 40 series (my FJ45 is a 1965)?

My ignition and door keys use different keys, and rather than buying a new matched pair of cores, perhaps someone has successfully disassembled and re-assembled one of the locks to match the other, so that they both can use the same key.

Lock smith should be able to.

Yes. I had a locksmith re key the ignition and gas cap on our 1962

Unless your local locksmith has a big bin full of spare parts, you'll need to make sure all of your locks use the same key blank, I believe that is indicated by the 1st of the 4 number on the lock I.E. 4XXX then he can change out the tumblers, but if they differ I think you will need to find another similar lock, you can buy OE Toyota blanks from SOR and actually I just looked, they explain it all on their site too

I did exactly what you want. I found that the cheapest and easiest way was to pull the lock cylinder from the ignition and take it to the locksmith with the door key. He rekeyed the ignition to match the doors. I think I dropped it off and came back in an hour.

The lock cylinder comes out pretty easily once you take the cover off the steering column.
