mailman brought a couple large packages today:bounce2:

I took them out of the box to check, they look to be in perfect shape. was tempted to "make sure they work" but didn't want to have to rewrap all the wires.

the 4 wheel steering looks especially fun. bad thing about these toys is they make my 40 look bad:crybaby:

thanks Mot, will get some pictures of them in action come Christmas!:bounce2:

So where does one get an Orion/Rockbox for these?
I have NO idea, but probably Rusty (Shackleford) or someone else can give you a pointer.

Lottsa fun tho, I'll have to get you to translate some of that info tho, its all Greek to me! :)
I'll try to work on it sometime, but if there's anything specific you'd like to know quickly, please don't hesitate to ask.

Great to hear that they, too, have gotten there safely!

One of the red ones that I have had a little blemish on the roof so I got it out of the box, trying to buff it out (Didn't work though)) It was REALLY tempting to take it out all the way and play with it, let me tell you.:D

I hope the girls enjoy their presents and that they'll make them appreciate what their daddy has in the garage a little more.

I'll look forward to seeing their happy faces in a couple of months.

Thanks again!

Mot

Hello Mot,
my red FJ40 arrived today. EXCELLENT PACKAGING!! no damage what so ever.
man this thing is HUGE.
now i am waiting for the yellow one.
thanks for the quick and excellent service.
cheers

So what does it say about charging the battery..appears to be 2 different methods/times? The wife had it charging for me when I got home (about 4 hours or so) and it was very warm, both the charger and the battery.
Mine seems to be missing the antenna post, but do I really need it? I could 'fab' something up I guess to hold it higher.
I have another controller that was for that little burgundy rc40 on one of the pics I posted. It has a removable chip to change the frequency (currently at 75mhz) and the new one is 40. If I could get a 40 chip for the other controller..I assume it would work? The other controller also has some adjustable settings which I think help control the speed.

just tried mine in the snow in the back yard, the thing really crawls along great. what a hoot!!

Glad you're already enjoying your new FJ40 with ZERO kms on the clock!:D

Whats the little dial for up at the front axle (L to R)? Some kinf of steering bias?
My tires seem to be a little toed in but I dont see any mechanical adjustment for that.
I think Rusty was able to answer most of your questions.
Were you able to locate the antenna mast yet?

Rusty Shackleford said:
Sorry, but I have not even taken mine out of the box yet. I would bet that if you wanted to use the other controler, you could get a chip from you local hobby shop or on the internet. Tower Hobby has most everything one would need.

Did you look for the antenna in the box? Like I said, I have not even opened mine, but I see the hard antenna taped to the back wall on the box on the inside.

I would not worry much about the battery warming up. They do tend to get hot. Just don't charge it right after it has been used and is hot. Let it cool completely before re-charging. It will last longer.

I bet the thing up front is for sttering/tracking. Most RC cars I have seen do have toe in to keep them running straight. The dial is most likely to set the car to run straight. I would bet the servos are not hobby grade and not proportional, so the other controler may be a waste of time. All these things can be upgraded to hobby grade. They even have digital servos and crap now days. It's a whole new world from when I use to built Team Associated rigs. The old RC10's and 12's were the bomb back when I was into the RC stuff, but I just now recently got back into it and wanted one of these as soon as I saw it. Cool truck and cool of mot to help us get our hands on them.
You're most welcome!
I'm glad that I can be of some assistance while making a little pocket change.:D

yup, lots of fun..thanks again Mot. I brought mine in to work today, like they needed any more ammunition to prove my Peter Pan syndrome :P
Did you just put it on your desk or drive around the cubicles.:D

just curious if I missed the boat on these?

pm me if any left please

found a downside, sorry Mot but these tires don't work on ice... i guess i will have to either get chains or sipe the tires...
LOL!!
cheers

no luck with the antenna mast. And for anyone who wants all working lights, the red one only has working headlights..but still very cool.

How long should that battery last on a full charge? And while I'm at it..how long is a full charge..6 hours? And overcharging is a big no-no correct?

Wayne,

I'm not sure if they make chains for tires that big (or small:D ).

Jeff,

Sorry about the antenna mast.

I've just called Aoshima (manufacturer) and told them that your antenna mast was missing. I also have a red 40 with scratched roof. They told me to send it back (both shipping on them) and they will replace the red one (if they have any left in stock) and also they told me that they would throw in an extra antenna mast.

I will send it to you as soon as I receive it. (I'll keep you posted!).

I'll post some translation of the manual from the red one in my next post in hopes to answer some of your questions/concerns.

Mot :)

Manual

PLEASE READ!

WARNING!
-Do NOT drive in a puddle.(Wayne, David:D)
-Do NOT place above a heater or wherever else that might get hot.
-Do NOT take it apart (Rusty!:D )
-When not operating for longer than a week, remove the battery (from the controller) and the rechargeable battery pack (from the vehicle).
-Use only the designated type of batteries.
-After charging the battery pack remove from the charger. When charged too long/much it may leak (Jeff!:D)
-When removing the battery pack hold the connector and pull it. Do NOT pull the wire cord.
-Do NOT touch the motor right after operating the truck. It might be VERY hot.

Regarding the rechargeable battery pack:
-Follow the instruction manual for charging.
-Do NOT short it out.
-If it gets wet stop using immediately (Wayne, David)
-Do NOT throw it into water or fire. And do NOT disassemble, nor do any soldering.

Misusing batteries (the one used for the remote control, I believe) can cause excess amount of heating, leaking, and exploding. Please follow the instructions below:
-Do NOT mix new and used batteries.
-Insert the + and - sides correctly.
-After playing, be sure to turn it off and remove batteries.
-Do NOT short it out, charge it, take it apart, heat it, or throw it into fire.
-In case the liquid from the battery gets in your eye, wash your eye with a lot of water and seek medical assistance immediately. Wash it out with water if it gets on your clothing.

When Playing:
-Do not play on the street, nor where there is a lot of people. Choose a safe place to play.
-Do not bend the antenna (of the controller, I believe). Do not point the antenna at people, it could break and an injury could occur from the broken section where it is sharp.
-Stop using immediately if you hear a thunder while using it. You could get struck by a lightning.
-Do NOT get any fingers, hair, or piece of clothing wound up in/on the tire/tyre.
-Do NOT ram it into objects, nor swing it around.
-When driving it inside pay attention to sliding windows or furniture.
-Beware of small and shart parts. Perform any maintenance work and store it away from children.

How to charge:
Charging time: 4-5hrs
Driving time: 5-6 min( )

Selectable 4WS/2WS switch is present

The dial at the bottom of the truck is the steering adjustment lever (front).
If the truck veers to the right, then move it toward "L", and vise versa. Or adjust it so the front tires are facing straight when stopped.

Before You Bother Mot:
As a characteristics of the 1/8 R/C Land Cruiser when the rechargeable battery is low and the speed is reduced it does not perform the "forward/reverse" function properly, sometimes resulting in it going forward when suposed to be going backwards, and vise versa. This happens because the battery is low and the vehicle is not broken.

When you see a condition like above recharge the battery for 4-5 hurs. Once it is fully charged it should perform normally.

Check List if not working:
-Not moving:
-Are the controller and the vehicle "ON"?
-The controller's battery is still good?
-The vehicles rechargeable battery has enough juice left?
(The controller/vehicle will only work w/in the 20m (60ft) radius.)
Are the channel/frequency on the controller and the vehicle the same?

-Not working properly
-There could be interference(sp) of signal/frequency. Play later or elsewhere.
-Do NOT drive one than one vehicle with same frequency.
-Is your antenna not broken? Holding the controller high would send the signal better.

Pheeeeew!!

HTH's!

Aw hell Mot

That reads like it was made for the US market, Not for Japan ;)

Mot
can you ask them to make one in metal with sharp ,rusty, and small parts like my old Tonka trucks ?. :D

Thanks again

I made minor adjustments to accommodate the US market a little.:D

Not if all of their employees are as friendly as the one I talked to on the phone.

Mot ;)

OK, Wayne has informed me that his red 40 is missing the antenna mast, either.

So please let me know if there are others with red, yellow, or blue that are missing the antenna mast and I will try to get them when I return the red, blemished 40.

Not sure how much the shipping is going to be though.

THANKS!

whew indeed, that was my next question ;)

AS for shipping the missing masts, can't they just be tossed in an envelope? Well, only if they are shorter than 8" I guess
