nice collection, mines stll faster tho :) The fancy controller I have is a 'Futaba' Attack III, FP12V, battery alarm, bioengineered design (????), digital proportional system (sounds fancy!).
The chip thats in it is a 75.750mhZ, type 72-3. Its a little ittby bitty black plastic thing with 2 small prong on the end.

AS for shipping the missing masts, can't they just be tossed in an envelope? Well, only if they are shorter than 8" I guess
Yes.

I think it's a little longer than 8", but I'm sure I can find a way to send it inexpensively.

I'll let you know!

Now I have to get one of the other colors to change out the lights on my red one. Oh well, that was my plan all along.
Let me know when I can be of service again, before I run out of the 20 boxes I've had made.:D

A question for you coming up at the bottom...

kids loved the box
Jake,

Glad to hear and see that the box served another purpose.:D
Your new 40 looks does not look out of place among your collection.;)

ANYWAY, it was brought to my attention that the battery gets SUPER hot.
And it was also pointed out to me that because of the charger's spec being for JDM (100v compared to 120v of US/Canada) this might become a bit of an issue. I know with the limited experience I have had with my electronics which were for the JDM and taken/used in the States most had lived a long and enjoyable life, but there were a couple of them that seemed to have suffered premature deaths (Could be something other than higher voltage, I guess).

For those of you, such as Rusty Shackleford who has/have dealt with r/c's from Japan, is it not safe for you to be using the charger which was designed for the lower voltage (100v) in N. America? Would it cause fire or a battery damage or anything else that is not desirable?

If any of you have any experience or knowledge you can share, that would be very much appreciate it.

Also, there is another person who has contacted me that has charged the battery for 5 hrs, but that didn't seem to charge the battery properly (VERY weak). He/She also stated that the 4WS(not 4WD) is not working properly. Any others with the red 40 experiencing similar problems?

I wish I could say that this is a great kit and it's perfect, but as you can see I'm starting to find out that it's not so rosy afterall.:frown:

I guess I could have tried hiding all these possibly isolated (I hope) problems, but I want it to be all out in the open for anyone who might be experiencing the same/similar problems or anyone who might be contemplating purchasing one in the future.

Again, any insight/advice/suggestions would be very much apprciated!

I could not post/reply to PM's sooner because I was out of town for a couple of days, going to (Tokyo) Disneyland with family and friends.:hillbilly:

THANKS!!

Mot

i think if there is a battery concern ,these rigs are still WAY cool .and everybody is gonna need some extra batteries anyways . hours of fun .the one that came with it is only 1200mAH kinda small .i have picked up a couple of batteries with charger on ebay very cheap , picked up a 6 pk. of betteries 6 months ago ,rated at 3600mAH , they will last me awhile . not much of a concern i don't think  , always gonna need batteries . this thing just looks COOL:grinpimp: .
i still sit and stare at it all day .

Jake

This is the type of charger that should be used for long life of the NiCd battery.

http://www.mahaenergy.com/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=185

This charger has many uses and I use the gadget almost daily.

The charge-brick that came with the RCFJ-40V will probably melt and short out while being run on 120vac.

i took the truck, charger and battery in to be tested. the battery charger was dead. the battery was 106% and the truck was fine...
new fast charge charger and 3300 battery and i am rwheeling in the snow...

Jake,

I'm glad that you feel that way!:bounce2:

David,

That charger is bad ass! (The cost is too.:D )

Wayne,

Glad that you were able to find out the problem was, but VERY sorry to hear that the charger is dead already.

Happy that the truck is still running though.:hillbilly:

All and all I'm very happy (and relieved:D ) that you haven't asked for any $$$ back, yet.:crybaby:

Mot :)

buddy, you wen tout of your way to find these cool toys for us and to go through all the hassle of shipping (huge PITA). i bought the Prophet plus by dynamite (5 year warranty) charger system and the VEN-1540 3300 battery to rocket this bad boy... total $106 CND. that battery that came with the rig is fine.

the 4WS is not working all that great (it kicks in and out) but for the last run it was workign fine so maybe it was just a gremlin that needed a kick in the ass...
i am going to put the yellow one up for raffle at the local TLCA River Shiver in Feb. i think that will intisce (sp?) the kids to participate in the raffle...

thanks again Mot...

The servos in this rigs are a little weak I think as Rusty eluded to in a previous post. Mine doesnt want to just turn the wheels left or right very well without it actually moving forward or reverse a bit first. It must be a manual steering setup like a real 'cruiser :).
The 4ws is kinda so-so, doesnt really work all that great.
Other than that, its just fun fun fun. Now if it would only stop raining here, then I could take it outside for some video action.

X2

on the darn rain .guess it's that time of year again.
is there a difference between the new ones (yellow, green) compared to the old ones (red) other than 4wheel steer, yellow one says full function digital proportional.is the red one also ,also noticed they have different front bumpers . ,mine will turn the wheels while stopped.with a full charge .also pops wheelies.:grinpimp:

 Jake

been messing around abit with it today . noticed my batteries weren't charging .decided to test my old charger .it was dead .,actualy figured it out. wire was broken .fixed it:grinpimp: .and found another old charger that worked .tested the output voltage and all tested to spec .but when i tested the output of the new one that came with the r.c it tested 17v  don't no if that is good for the battery . :grinpimp:

Jake .

Wayne,

THANKS!
Hope the raffle draws a good turnout!

Enigma,

Bummer that 4WS is more of a gimmick than anything else.:frown:

Jake,

Don't know what the deal is or what to say about the charger and the battery.

I'm just grateful(sp) that you guys have taken it so well (at least acting like you are:D )

THANKS!

Mot

battery's fine . i guess the charger just isn't that compatible over here (u.s.,canada). i guess the battery would get hot pumpin 17v's into it

Jake,

THANKS for explaining it to me like you would to a five-year old. ;)

I'll have to warn those who are interested in them that it is strongly recommended that they purchase a separate/different charger.

THANKS!

charging questions

So on my old rc fj40, looking at the 7.2V ( Ni-Cad battery 6KR-1500SC 7.2V 1500mAh), it says to charge at 150mA for 14-16 hours.
The charger that came with it is labeled as a class 2, with a output of 7.2VDC 400mA, and to charge for 4-5 hours.
A little confusing aint it? So what do I charge it at, 4-5 hours like the wall plug says or let it cook for 15 like tha battery says?

The 'JET' charger that came with the new toy is labeled 10.8 VDC at 300mA, with the new battery as 7.2V 1200mAh, and as Mot said earlier to charge for 4-5 hours.

I draw pictures for a living and dont really understand electrical mumbojumbo...so can I mix and match these chargers/batteries or will something go boom!?

Jeff,

I know NOTHING about anything, especially when it comes to the electrical stuff (I like electronics though:hillbilly:)

I sure hope someone can chime in again to shed some light on the matter.:frown:

someone just needs to post up what exact batteries and exact charger will make this baby go!...may have already been done...i guess i should go back and read through the posts...i know when ours gets here i want to have the right stuff to make it work...not being able to play after waiting would be like a christmas present that don't work!

charge says 14-15 hours at 150mA on battery . your charger says output 400mA how many times does 150 go into 400,400/150 =2.6 ,,14hours / 2.6 = 5.4.charge for 5.4 hours roughly , your charger is a 5hr charger then . mine outputs 500mA and says 4 hour quick charge 500/150 =3.33 .14hours /3.33=4.2 hours to charge , . it would take 14-15 hours to charge if you had a charger that output .only 150mA , oh my charger says class 2 also i hope this all makes sense

any 7.2 volt battery.the one that came with it works ,it just seems that you need to ,or might want to pick up a new charger .one more compatible with our 120v here in N.america to charge it up .
