What is your logic here? How does removing the window's ability to slide make it functional and useful?

Hello,

Troop Carriers, or Troopies for short, are intended to carry personnel from one place to another, hence the name. Passengers that in turn get some job done, or return from a completed task. These trucks are also intended to transport cargo from one location to another.

The option to open a side window comes second to personnel delivery. Something that is nice to have but not essential. The capacity to transport people and/or cargo back and forth, under any operating conditions, is what matters.

Sure, someone will feel better with an open window. Most will not care much. And cargo does not care at all about sliding windows.

This is why I consider solid side windows as very utilitarian in nature.

I think that 75 Series I saw ages ago had solid windows, by the way. It was later that I saw a Troopie with sliding windows.

I mean, I'm aware of all of this and I agree with what you say here, but "the ability for the window to slide" seems so inconsequential that considering it a utilitarian quality seems weird to me. I personally wouldn't look at a vehicle with stationary windows and think "damn, that's a real worker's truck right there" in some sort of gate-keeping fashion. I also wouldn't think to myself "this person doesn't get their hands dirty" simply because their windows can slide. I understand your sentiment though.

Hello,

I do not like solid side windows very much either.

However, I have seen my share of vehicles with solid windows moving people and cargo, Troopies among them. Down to business...

I would not think "this person does not get their hands dirty" because of solid windows either. I would just think -as I did back in the day- "this person does not mind sliding windows" which is fine by me.

Funny detail: I have seen many short wheelbase 70 Series trucks with jump seats and solid side windows.

For when your friends list is small but you still have work to do, right?

Hello,

Indeed.

Those models had a 2/3 bench passenger seat, vinyl mats and upholstery, no AC (sometimes not even a fan, just a fresh/recirculation lever) no radio... As basic as 70 Series trucks get.

Other base grade, short wheelbase 70 Series trucks did have jump seats and sliding windows. For friends who wanted some fresh air, I presume.

A friend of mine is currently in Antananarivo, Madagascar 🇲🇬 and sent this (awesome!) photo and caption:
“If you ever wondered what happened with the renault, peugeot and citroen cars from the last 40-50 years - they are used as taxis in Antananarivo”.
Of course without mention of the 76 in the background (BTW - interesting spec. No snorkel, no hood ornament, but flared!).

Ran into the owner of this rig with Utah plates, in Knoxville on Dec 21. Just curious if he's on Mud?

This is the place to post all your weird and wonderful 70 series pics which don't fit in any of the other threads. If you have or have found a cool pic relating to the 70 series, post em up.

I'll start.

Hello,

Ages ago, one of the first 75 Series Troopies I saw, an FJ75, had solid rear windows. Incidentally, it was the same color as the one you came across.

Nothing says utilitarian as solid rear windows on a Troopie.

The BJ70 Series is too far gone, I am afraid...

Nope , just takes money, mine was that bad when I started the Resto.

Hello,

I am glad to hear that.

I suppose it gets down to how many panels you have to replace and how much damage you have to repair. And to the will to do it.

That, and a lot of coating after the restoration to keep the rust at bay.

Now that is occupational therapy.

It's a screenshot from a Youtube video in Anvers port, proving that yes there are dozens of 70 series waiting there to be shipped where ever in the world x)
(the video itself in unrelated to the 70 series)

Getting the 70 in the pic was an afterthought. I had parked and wanted to document the parking/no parking signage before we walked away. This is a very zoomed in screenshot. It wasn't until we walked by it that I noticed the truck and owner. Wouldn't be unlike me to take such a blurry pic lol
