definitely dont want to remove the drain before the fill. what if you cant get the fill off? yer fuch'd.

The best way to learn is from a mistake. Luckily I haven't sold the Bimmer yet...

When I changed the T case oil today, the fill plug came off first.

Yep, Have the DuraTracs. They look good and perform ok, but are a B**** to keep balanced. Just have not had good luck with GY's. Probably the last set I will buy...

My BFG's haven't been the best either, every time I rotate I have to get them balanced. I have a shimmy at 55-65 then it goes away.

On my second set of BFG AT/KOs now. Got 95k out of the first set!

At the end of their life, I ended up running a bald spare on the Front Passenger side for about 3 months with a heavy pull to the right. Grew tired of that, so I swapped it with one that that had the same amount of tread as the front driver, which happened to be on the driver side rear. Changing the rotation on these tires is not a good idea...within two weeks, I was bouncing up and down at low speeds like a tire was oval shaped. I think the belts shifted or were giving loose. Evidently I missed the radial memo about new rotation patterns.

I am happy to report that she drives like brand new now. I can't believe the difference in handling, noise level and tracking. What a tire...heavy loads every week making mostly RH turns, Moab, several other off highway trips and loads of miles running up and down the east coast. From my records I only rotated them 4 times and they were only balanced once. Here's to another 95k  BFG.

So I have no trailer hitch, what is a good way to carry 1 or 2 bikes without tossing them in the back? Bike rack would be a little high... but if that's my only way...

bump for my above question and one more..

My oil pressure gauge is jammed on high, smacking the dash doesn't work anymore. I'm not really "comfortable" with pulling the gauges if there will be tons of work. Can I just unscrew it and tilt it outward and see if the connection has came off. What's it look like back there?

Thanks

If you don't want to put bikes on a hitch or in the back, that pretty much only leaves the roof. Or hood. Or sides.

As for your gauge, you have to pull the trim below the cluster, the trim around the column and then the whole thing comes out with 4-5 small screws and 2 big bolts. I had a bear of a time getting it to reseat after changing a bulb and couldn't get half of the gauges to work. Gave up and a tech cranked on those bolts and it seated.

Do you care about the finish on the bicycles? Bungee one to the combo bar and put the other one on the roof. I'd just throw them in the back though.

If you can't find an idea you like here, you aren't going to find anything you like.

:hmm: Maybe I can make some brackets and retro one of these to utilize the wing mounts...

Have the tie downs go into brackets that bolt into the tailgate support cable mount... Not sure how the glass would like it, but if it doesn't dent the trunks, shouldn't do anything to the glass.

I was thinking that unit could just be mounted to the top door (assuming that you have the tailgate and top door, not side by side doors at the rear), as long as the handlebars don't hit the glass. The hinges may not like it, and the bikes would sit high, but at least they won't be hitting the ground if you take it off road!

I think that would just about clip straight on to my rear door, with the angle stretched out. Maybe the top bar would sit on the glass, but it is padded. I would be concerned about the weight of two bikes though.

I would have to find one in a store and do a test mount before buying, I think.

Or, you could always email Thule and ask for ideas.

dude, get one like shown two posts up...they work on trunk lids as well as they do rear lift gates like we have. I had one similar for years on my cherokee and fj60.....they are not expensive and why risk damage to vehicle or bike paint or having one come loose to save a few bucks...?

My sister used one of this type on her 4runner and it dented the tailgate... Don't know if she did it right or not. :meh:
