What company have you guys bought your hydro steering assist from. Im thinkin like the one Woody set up in his 4x4 Labs steering component thing. Im gonna use the same system. Just wondering if i would really need the ram assist on 35s with lockers front and rear or if the crossover and saginaw would be enough. I hate getting somewhere and needing someting i could do......

good crossover does make a nice difference, but adding the ram afterwards is easy enuf.

I used WestTexasOffroad for my ram and box porting, no complaints, but others have used cheaper stuff.

I am also planning on running hydro-assist for my 40, but am concerned with the amount of street use.
It sounds like I am looking for a smaller diameter piston, as they tend to respond better then the larger units.

Does anyone have any input on hydro-assist on the street?

Thanks woody. I saw your write up on the 4x4 Labs one. You still running that? Hows it holding up if you are? I plan on getting crossover in the very near future. Stupid 650 dollar center arms.

I run my Rocklogic4x4 kit (available you know where ;))... on my street-driven FJ40, I can't complain in the slightest.. it doesn't affect the handling at all. There are quite a few rigs here in the SLC area running the ram-assist on DD rigs, no complaints... :D

I'm interested in this system also, but use my 40 on the street a lot as well.

are there certain things to look out for in that regard?

good ways of doing ram assist vs. bad ways?

also, I'm currently running a mini truck PS box and retaining the center arm. This is fine for the street, but I haven't done any *real* wheeling with the truck yet... (thats what the 80 is currently for :D ) I like the *feel* of the mini system on the street, but hear my 35's on the rocks will seriously stress the center arm (or rip it off...)
Will a ram assist take the strain off the center arm and allow me to continue its use, or do I need to go with another PS box system?

Kurt,
Do you know the piston dia. of your ram?
I understand the smaller units respond better on the street...

Chris,
I believe the hydro-assist will allow you to keep your toy box w/35".

thanks for the input,

Look in hardcore, there is a lengthy thread where I asked many of the same questions being asked here, and got good answers.

Good lookn out Mr. Quintrell :D

1.5" ram on my system, great feel on the street and trail.

The 4x4 Labs stuff still rocks...zero complaints with it.

build, port and fab your own.

I do not know how well a SAF mini box will work/port, trying any other PS box would be worth it rather then going HA.

Any PS without the centerlink should be good through about 37" tires, IMO. PUMP tweaks help alot.
