so iwas thinkin lately on a new way i can kill more time and money on my cruiser. my roof has alot of flaws and i was thinkin instead of bangin em out or puttin sun roofs in im gonna make her a rag top.

I was thinkin i could cut the roof off leaving about 2 inches around all the doors then droppin it down to remove the rear window. The roof above the driver and anll passangers would be gone as well as the entire back including the top tail door.

To my next point with this i need to find a way to reinforce the body so it doesnt twist with all the body getting cut away. has anybody ever seen an interior roll cage for a 60. i was gonna try to make one and have the canvas top attach over that.

kinda a crazy idea i had after riding around in a friends scout the other day. after some of the mods i have coming up i decided not to sell but to make completely mine so if anybody has any pics or idea on how to do this and make it look clean it would b much appreciated. either the interior full length roll cage or atoppless 60. Cruisers rule!

You will need a cage if ya do this brotha...I have thought about it many times but dont feel like tying a cage into a crappy frame, gotta frame swap first.

I too have thought of doing it to my 60. I agree a cage would be extremely important, not only for safety but to keep the body from flexing, and tie into the windshield frame. I dont think there is a commercially available cage for the 60, so one would definetly have to be made...

saw an interior cage somewhere on the net for a 62... can't remember where but if memory serves me the guy had posted it saved his tail. if you can locate it he might give up all the dimensions and design stuff.

How about a big folding sunroof like this one? I put one on a BMW 20002 years ago and it was pretty cool. Fits with the third-world look of the 60.

i plan to fit my cruiser with a canvas slider like that when i redo the body. i think that would be kickass. chops are cool but they never seem to look right to me, at least not with out a bob as well and winters would be miserable without a hard top.

Those are cool. They look really huge, now I want one...exotic looking. Then I need Nepalese license plates and its all good....

Has anybody ever done this?

If there are any cross members in the roof, diagonals etc. it may pose a problem. Keeping the perimeter of the roof intact will keep the body rigid, unlike a flexo convertible.

Does anybody know what is behind the sheet metal? Without cutting it open to find out?
