Absolutely. It's been great. Updated the entire look of the interior, and the usability/functionality has been great. I like it better than even what comes on the 2016+ LX/LC.

I'm convinced and diving in.

Looks like there's tons of new variants out there that are subtly different in facade and buttons/knobs. There's also lots of variation in CPU, with some of the high end/high priced ones coming in with 2021 gen Qualcomm A76 processors. I'm picking a middle of road one and will see how it goes.

If you go with a PX6 unit, you can purchase and install Sergey's custom firmware, which adds a TON of functionality; it's well worth the $100 he charges for it. See the thread that discusses the 2016+ T-Style head units for some more info on that and I think there's a link in there to where to find Sergey on Facebook. The units with newer tech and later versions of Android will probably have more initial issues you'll need to deal with combined with less community support. Pay attention to how much RAM and ROM the unit comes with - if there are options, get the unit with the most of each. If you buy direct from the manufacturer, like RidgieWagon and I did, you can save a lot of money. Finally, expect to run into a hiccup or 2 in getting the unit installed and up and running. I get the impression that you enjoy tinckering with things, so you'll probably be fine with getting one of these units installed and working.

Thanks for the insight. I'll be the first to admit that I haven't dived in very deep to understand all the detail differences.

Here's the unit I'm ordering. Without much thought to vender and details. Price seems about right at $720 shipped for the 8G/128GB configuration. Doesn't state whether it's PX6 or not, but I presume it is. Would be interested in your thoughts?

That unit is a newer unit running Android 11 and with a newer CPU (that‘s what the Snapdragon is and why you don’t see a PX6 mention. It may be fine, it’s just that there will be fewer support channels for it for now.

Here's a model i haven't seen before. Has a smaller screen but physical buttons.

This model has a UIS7862 processor. Not sure where that ranks against the Snapdragon 665. The PX6 is a RockChip RK3399 for comparison.

Edit: Some light reading suggests the UIS7862 is faster than the PX6 and the Snapdragon is faster than the UIS7862. Also of note, the UIS7862 can only address 6gb of RAM, so no reason to get the 8gb model.

If your plan is to try to keep the device updates and run local Google Maps, Spotify, etc... all of which will warrant eventual app updates, then get the newest, fastest device you can manage to find with the most RAM and storage and the latest Android version. Yes there will be less community support for now, but if you get an older version you're just asking to need to repeat this process in 4-5 years when the device is no longer supportable. (I had an Android tablet like that years ago... it was great until I went to Android 5 but then the updates made it a worthless pile of poo. Ditto for pretty much every Apple device a year or two before they decide to obsolete them)

However, if you're planning to largely use Carplay and keep the apps static on the device then get the most stable thing you can find.

I think I would go for an Android 9 PX6 unit as my first choice simply due to the amount of support that's available, which shouldn't be underestimated. Otherwise, I would go with the newest combo I could find, which would be the Android 11 option, which also has a larger screen. In my use so far, performance hasn't been an issue. It's not like on a regular PC or tablet where you're much more likely to have a bunch of apps running simultaneously.

I recently purchased the EC Offroad unit for my 2019 LC. I do not have the rear screens, just the main head unit. CarPlay works great through the Zlink connection. Here are the problems that I'm experiencing:1) I can't use my front cameras now, but the back up camera seems to have full function. 2) I can't access the original Toyota Settings Menu. I can get back to the Toyota Navigation screen, but I have not found any way to get back to the Settings where you can program things like headlights, auto door locks, clock, and vehicle diagnostics.

I have corresponded via email with EC Offroad several times over the past few days. They sent me a very basic instruction video (about 2 minutes long) and said the installation looked correct based on the photos I sent to them. Other than that, no support. Have any of you experienced these issues and do you have any recommendations? I'm wondering if it's a setting or programming issue, or if I need an additional wiring plug adapter.

Clarify which EC Offroad unit you have. Is it the full Tesla style unit or just the CarPlay unit?

It's not the Tesla unit. Here's the item description from EC Offroad website:

Interface Module unit to suit LandCruiser 200, Car Play & GPS. Android system. July 2018 - 2021

It's the unit that Eric Sargent/Ed Martin Toyota recommended in his YouTube video. The product description clearly states that surround cameras should work and there should be no loss of functionality.

Before I recently went with a Tesla style unit (not from EC Offroad), I had been using the EC Offroad Interface Module in my 2020. All of the camera functionality (both rear and front) worked just fine. Same with the factory settings menu - once you press and hold the Home button to switch back to the factory mode, ALL factory functionality (radio, navigation, SiriusXM, settings, etc.) worked as if the interface module wasn't there at all.

There's already a thread here for discussing the interface module, so I would suggest moving this discussion to that thread. This thread is more about Tesla style complete head unit swaps. But it sounds like you have a hardware / wire harness failure on the unit they sent you, connected something incorrectly, or they sent you the wrong version of the module. If you hooked something up incorrectly, we can probably help you out in the thread for the module. If it's a hardware problem, you'll need to work through it with EC Offroad.

howdy @TeCKis300, you end up installing one of these? Wife is considering going from a GX to a used LX so doing some research on this. Appreciate any feedback and pictures if you got 'em. Thanks
