Which one would be the best choice? Or does it matter?

All of the UV5* radios are the same internals. It's just that the newer ones have newer firmware from the factory. I'm pretty sure you can upgrade any of them to the latest firmware. No real reason to buy an older one though, I'd say.

In this case, the UV5RA is the newer of the two.

Here's the info on the firmware.

Bump for some info on MRTwooooo's install. We drilled the factory 80 front bumper for his NMO mount antenna. That worked out really well. It's well grounded, and plenty sturdy. If I had an 80 that'd be my choice for CB and ham antenna. Go with NMO for both, and be done with it. Antennas stay low and out of the brush, and they ground well.

What type of radio did twooooo go with and where did y'all mount it?

He got the Kenwood TM-D710G. Body of the radio is under the driver's seat, and the face plate is just in front of the 4x4 shifter, mic is on the side of the center console.

I'll supply some pictures to give some visuals image-1022586619.webp image-204125230.webp

The faceplate is in a great spot. I can easily see it while I'm driving.
