I have a '90 with original radiator, about 160K miles. It's not leaking, but wondering if advisable to replace anyway given age.

And, if so, any recommendations for replacement brand/materials. Thanks.

If you are worried why not just have it serviced/boiled out?

Well, we shall see. I've flushed it out recently and am not worried much about it. May just put in aux trans cooler and leave it alone.

Driving out of Death Valley over Towne Pass last late Spring I noticed that the engine in my '88 V6 4rnnr didn't get warm until the trans unlocked. Tells me that the radiator is fine except for when the trans is making a lot of heat, and then it can barely keep up. My plan is to add a a large aux cooler on the line from the trans to the radiator. Since cold weather operation is also expected I will be including a oil t-stat that by-passes the aux cooler when it is not needed. We'll see how that works. If need be I have the bits to add a t-stat controlled fan to the aux cooler.

Interesting. Adding an aux trans cooler can also help keep engine cooler. Makes sense, though it had never occurred to me.
Just checked to find that the used tires I bought for cheap about 7 years ago for the Runner are now 28 years old! These will be replaced, rather than the radiator.
