I think I must be using acid instead of coolant in my radiator. I have a 1991 HZJ75 cab chassie that I have had since new. Got to work tonight and what do you know a big puddle of green under my truck. Pull the plate off hoping it is just a loose hose as I replaced all the hoses and belts about a month ago, but no. Another radiator has poooped itself. The bottom tank has cracked away. In 19 years that is about 5 radiators I have gone through. Why? Does anyone else have problems with these.

Can anyone tell me if this is a common thing with these?

Do the plastic radiators out of the newer say 79 series fit and are they any better?

Split tank.

Hi. I look after 10 hzj 75 that work on fraser and this is not a comman problem. Do you have the plastic or brass tanks? Where did it split? I have seen one blow the bottom tank off but that was when they cooked the motor and kept driving until the tank blew off. Yes a hzj78 one will fit. It is about 80mm longer and you have to use a 78 bottom hose. The 78 shroud is longer to. A 75 shroud will fit with a copple of mods.

Great info mate

Sounds like your coolant is creating an electrolyte solution.

How often do you change the coolant and flush the rad?

Are you re-filling it with at least 50% coolant and DISTILLED water?

It is a brass radiator.

This time it split where the bottom tank is attached to the core. I got to work and come back past my truck 5 minutes later and there was a huge pool of coolant. It was running out.

The first couple of time it went I had it repaired. I think from memory they replace one of the tanks aswell. I know have 4 damaged radiators sitting up on the shelf in the shed. Nobody want to repair them any more they just want to sell you a new one. I was thinking about having a go at soldering it up myself. Any tips. Prices on new ones vary to the extreme. $300-$700.

I bought one for $330. The tanks are slightly thicker than the one I took out so hold a bit more coolant.

Up unitl about a month ago I have always used the coolant that Toyota sell at an exorbetant price. Red colour coolant /anti freeze. 50:50 mix with distilled water. Change coolant every 2-3 years. This time I used some that I bought from supacheap. Once again 50:50 mix as per instructions.

Check for stray current in the coolant system. Any auto elec can do this for you. It doesnt take muck to turn it into a radiator destoyer. Twice as bad on aluminium.

I have a HZJ75 same model and I bought the aussie desert cooler triple flow std core for around the 500 mark and its been terrific.
