My LC is a 1993 PZJ75 which came with the R141F 4 speed manual transmission.
I have noticed many manual transmission LCs came with the R151 or H150/1 instead of the R141F.
After searching/reading online; I have found very little reference to the R141F or durability/specs (gear ratios).
I have read that this transmission comes with a dual mass flywheel/clutch setup; when it wears out it is generally upgraded to the 1HZ flywheel/clutch assembly.
From my searches..... this transmission was almost solely issued with the PZJ75 in a Mining Truck configuration.
Since this transmission is issued in a truck slated for mining; does this mean the R141F is a Heavy Duty transmission ?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks....

As I understand it the R141 is basically an R151 without a 5th gear; everything else inside is the same. In terms of durability the R-series are inferior to the H-series, and won’t stand up to heavy abuse. However, with a 1PZ and a reasonable right foot there is no reason an R transmission shouldn’t hold up. The H transmissions are considered the heavy duty models.

In all honesty, unless you are going to be doing heavy towing or hauling big loads, the R transmission will probably be just fine, especially with a 1PZ. I have an R150 in my Prado, and when I'm done with the engine swap it will be putting out significantly more power than a stock 1HZ (140+hp and nearly 300lb-ft). Time will tell how it will hold up, but I think it should be fine.

The R series gets a bad wrap in the cruiser world but it is a good transmission.
I have a R151 behind a 1HD now and although I did make some upgrades to it I don't have any concerns, just don't tow in 5th(or be careful if you do), and don't put on tractor tires and go mudding and you will be fine.

The R series includes the R154 trans out of the Supra, which was stock at over 300hp, and Supra guys don't even thing about uprading it until they get to around 600hp, and with simple upgrades will put 1000hp through it.

It also shares most parts with the AX15 which was used in Jeep, and there it is considered to be stronger than stock axles.

I’ve looked up (terrain tamer as an example) makes an upgraded shaft with more spline contact and I believe you can buy an upgraded 5th gear assembly.
The boxes on the ground look dam well identical based off photos.

I’m going to do some more reading and emails to figure out what can be done truly to beef up a r151 and how it stacks up to a h150

Hello,

The FSM describes the R141F/R150F/R151F as "constant mesh synchronizers for forward gears and a sliding mesh reverse gear."

I remember reading that the R14x/R15x is based on a transmission designed for the Corolla.

H15xF transmissions are beefier than R14x/R15x. This means that the latter cannot take as much abuse as the former.

Treated properly, this transmission will last. You may want to change its oil every 40000 km just in case.

I would get a R151. If they were owner operated, and you had the later 2 piece instead of 3 piece shaft, you will be ok. In Australia , mining companies and rental companies pulled their hair out over the R151, they just couldn't handle people doing racing gear changes and dumping the clutch.

The 79 series is not getting a turbo unless the engine s***s itself. Then I'll look at doing a direct 1hd-t or ft swap on it.
Not going to worry about that at all at this point. Bigger fish to fry.

Though if the trans/transfer needs a rebuild I'll be throwing in as many beefed up parts into it to strengthen it and take a turbo upgrade with ease. Throwing 360 an email. I'll report back.
