Now that the thread is fully de-railed from topic I feel less guilt for continuing the trend. 🥳 About an hour southeast of Ft. Leonard Wood, in another town...
That is a great event (as an ex-Subaru enthusiast)! We go almost every year. PM me if you come again! I usually camp with a few buddies in the MTNF between the Friday and Saturday stages. But, it hasn't been the same since we lost Block.

What is the event? I gather from the photos it's a dirt and street rally.

100-Acre Wood Rally. Every March here in the Ozarks! It's drawn a lot of big names in rally over the years, and is totally free to attend.

Thanks for the invite. I'll definitely reach out next time I can make it.

I won't say that Block was not a loss to the sport...but it's not about the team drivers. I think this as been a thing in the area since 1977. The spirit of the sport doesn't die when a competitor does. I don't see the race getting any smaller going forward.

I've had them on a week and have only driven around town. So far, the are seem just a little on the stiff side, but I attribute that to two factors:
  1. My old shocks were blown out, so they were too soft.
  2. This new suspension hasn't settled in yet.
I have a long drive tomorrow for Army drill, a little over 100 miles. That should let them settle in a wee bit. I'm looking forward to taking them on some trails and see how they handle soon!

I'll post some photo's soon.

Just dropped the ol' girl off at the transmission shop. I have a small, slow, drip, apparently coming from between the transmission and transfer case.
I'm trying to get everything buttoned up before our week in the Sierra's. Hopefully it's only a gasket and won't be more than ~$1,500, as was suggested.

Fingers crossed for you.

Just spoke with Ed (owner) from Crown Valley Transmissions that has a 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ with 40 reviews. Note, that's not 4.5 or 4.7 stars, but a full 5 stars! To say I trust him is an understatement.
He told me that I need to change out all the seals. The seals have sand and grit (not the kind of grit that makes you more manly...) and that it's probably from all the off road trails we've done. I'm having him do all new seals and a trans service, e.g. drop the pan. Total when it's all done will be nearer to $2,000 and a couple days. Unfortunately, parts are not local, otherwise I'd have it next day.
While talking with him, I told him how I'm active on a GX forum and that there's been a lot of discussion about transmissions, temperatures and aftermarket coolers. I mentioned how often we, here on MUD talk about transmission temps over 220° F and how it seems like everyone wants to keep their temps under 200°F with trans coolers and all.
He told me that anything under 300°F is fine, very normal and not to worry about it. If your trans temps start reaching 300°F then start to worry, and pull over. I told him that a bunch of guys on the GX forum have added aftermarket transmission coolers and his reply was, it messes with the factory cooling system and doesn't really help.
He also said my GX already has additional cooling that's available for the GX's. Not sure if that's because I have a premium or not, but my guess would be that it is and that mine came with a receiver hitch.
Keep ya'all posted as I find out more.

Guy at Slee basically said the same thing. Just do fluid maintenance, no need for AUX cooling.

Check another one for opting out of an external trans cooler!
Slee is another vendor with outstanding credentials.

Yep that was from Amory. He has been solid for advice.

Interesting. I wonder if all GX's with factory hitches have this additional cooling? Or maybe my hitch was a port added option because I do not see a trans cooler on my rig and the little hitch cover panel is still attached and the hitch is below that. What I wouldn't kill to get a monronay for my rig.

IMO: He is just referring to the loop that goes through the radiator. Only time trim factored into external cooler in US market was with the '20+ Luxury and "off-road package". All other years and trims have the same stock setup without an external AT cooler.

470s generally had the external cooler and different setup without the AT warmer.

Fluid drain and fills are probably the most important thing one can do.

I've said this many times before but do not recall a report of any 460 owners saying they changed their AT fluid every 30-50k miles and it still died.

Bear in mind too... far more standard in all 460s in markets outside of North America to have the stock external cooler.

If you have the third row HVAC you get an Aux fan for the radiator. Not quite the same, but does help with cooling capacity.

Glad I'm spending the extra coin for the maintenance.

Hmmm., I'll look to see if I have that.

My counterpoint to the transmission and offroad shops saying not to worry about temps and just do fluid maintenance is that Lexus added the external cooler to the 20+ 460s with the off road package in the US and I think that was an option overseas before that.

People definitely freak out about temps and do too much by stacking coolers and aux fans and a bunch of stuff that still doesn't get them out of fluid maintenance every 30-50k. But a small external cooler like the OEM or 678 seems like a good idea if you tow or wheel with big tires and extra weight.

I too was getting close to wanting to dip into the additional trans cooler pool also. Now I think I'll just keep what I have and save my play money for something I'd find more useful, like rims with spinners! 😆
