Here....mostly.
:birf:

So I was placing the locking hubs on last night and noticed that the Drivers Side birf seemed longer than the PS. The only reason I noticed there was a difference was during the placement of the snap ring. The DS was impossible to get on without having the birf held out by the screw...the snap ring groove was behind the flange when you pressed the birf towards the diff. But on the PS, it still stuck out a good distance past the flange even when pressed. I also noticed that the tip of the PS birf was painted green. Does this indicate anything to anyone, like a brand marking? Has my PS :birf: been changed?

Thanks

Thanks Rick,

Does the Green marking mean anything to you or anyone? Does having one side longer than the other do anything bad? (still trying to troubleshoot a deceleration moan) The flanges look the same, next time I pull the spindle I'll measure both the birfs.

Safado,

FWIW, mine was the other way around, in that my PS was longer that the DS. The snap ring on the DS side was a pretty tight fit. The PS actually had a little bit of play in the birf/axle once the snap ring was on. I would venture to guess about 1 mm of extra length on the PS side. Based on some conversations after doing this job, this difference seemed normal.

the green paint indicates it came from a wrecker or rebuild shop to me. Probably an exchange from a rebuild shop and the green paint means "good to go" so they don't get confused internally.
