Okay so first and foremost, Is the shifter supposed to be so loud and clunky? I'm talking about the shifter itself and not the actual drivetrain.
Are there any grease points in the shifter or linkage?
Also, where do the O/D button cables disconnect from the shifter? Someone cut and taped it back together in my car.

Two screws on the front of the shifter, you try tightening them? No grease points on the shifter, don't think any on the linkage either.

You can't disconnected the OD switch without removing the entire assembly, and I mean the whole friggin thing. I put a new shifter handle on mine recently and had to splice the OD wires. No big deal just make sure the connections are solid and good.

Cheers

I found out per the FSM that there is a serviceable plug that the wires connect into.

if you remove the pins from that plug the whole length of the wires come out with the shifter.

Yes it was a pain but easy once I figured it out.

That is way more tear down than I wanted to do, yours is nice and clean in there though, mine not so much! Two wire crimps and some shrink wrap and mine is good to go.

Cheers

I feel ya,

I was so close to doing that but when I saw in the FSM it was supposed to route out with the shifter I was determined to do it. Lol...

Having done it all onc now, all it takes is removing the wood/plastic trim and then the plug with a release bar.
I tore a lot apart because I wanted to. The shifter tape or guide to indicate what gear your in was coated on both sides in its slide area with a sticky drink of sorts. It all went into the sink with soapy dawn for cleaning.
