Would a bad Carb give me idling problems?

Well, it could, if there was loose crap floating around in it and fuel isn't flowing through it smoothly. It would seem it would be more evident at idle, but I'm not sure about that.

Have you done a Sea Foam treatment? A chemical rebuild could be a good first start and see how it effects your idle.

Well swank...i have just noticed here in the last few days my RPM's running weird. One time over the weekend my RPM's were running higher then normal and then today my rpm's were running lower then normal. This is why i thought my carb might be the problem. Its the original and has never been overhauled. I have cleaned it already (couple of months ago). Maybe its time for a rebuild.

How many banana job is rebuilding a carb? BTW...this would be my first.

I'd say call Jim C. My old carb is sitting in the garage waiting for a rebuild, and I just haven't wanted to mess with it. There's a ton of little springs, metal balls and gaskets throughout.

Also, if it's been on that long, I'd be worried about bushing wear/leakage.

One thing you may want to do is use the trouble shooting guide in your emissions FSM. There's a section that makes suggestions on rough/erratic idle and what could be effecting it. It's good because there are always things in the system you may forget to check or even think about that could effect idle.
