I've decided to remove my EGR cooler, utilizing the JimC welding method, blocking off the intake and a block off plate purchased from man-a-fre for the rear-side exhaust manifold.

Will the FJ60 run okay with just these two procedures done? Hopefully i will do more but i need to get this thing on the road asap.....been bumming rides from my roommates for 3 weeks now:bang:

I haven't sent my carb or dizzy off or done any other desmog procedure except plug my air rail.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

No replies?

Another question: What kind, if any, of sealant to use on:

1)Intake/exhaust manifold gasket
2)EGR valve gasket
3)Exhaust manifold block-off plate gasket

I've read on here not to use silicon on any gasket that deals with any type of fuel flow, Is this true?

Again, any advice is appreciated!

Not too sure on your first post, but I think you'll be OK for temporary transportation till you have time to finish the job right.

Copper Coat Gasket Compound is the answer three times in your second post.

Good luck:cheers:

Bump...

I am curious for an answer to the original question. I am looking at going the same route for a temporary fix to get back on the road.

i would believe that it would be ok as a short time fix, but would not recomend it as a full time deal. Get all that crap out of there. You will also want to look into a high-flo cat if you don't have one already... from what I have been told you will clog up the stock cat faster than you would like with a desmog. I got rid of mine all-together :hillbilly:

I have bee going through these and my cruiser runs with lots of stuff wrong I am Leary of changing it and it not running at all...

I have actually taken all the vacuum hoses off for my emissions and rerouted the hoses i needed....i have not recurved the dizzy or adjusted the carb but i need to. The cruiser now runs fine but the timing is off and i have no acceleration (due to the timing ii think)

Definitely more room under the hood but i won't know the fruition of my desmog until i fix the timing.
