Question About New 2F Valve Oil Seals (3 Viewers)

From what I have learned in the last few days, the OEM valve seals with the spring seat incorporated are no longer available. If anyone has used the new seals without the seat, have you had any issues?

4 years in already on my rebuild, no issues with the new style seals. The seals that came out on my 76 also didn't have the spring seat, so they were the same general shape.

If your head has the spring seat style installed, just cut the “stem” off. Then reuse them along with the new style seals. Get a McDonalds straw, cut a length, slip it over the keeper grooves in the valve stem and slide the lubed seal over the straw past the grooves, remove straw to tap seal onto the guide.

I have only seen pictures of the seals. Is the stem rubber or metal? What did you use to cut it? How close to the seat did you cut it?

They aren’t an interference fit on the valve guide so figure cut enough off so you can tap the new seals until seated without touching what’s left of the spring seat tube. Oh and drop the spring seat over the guide before you install the stem seal. I used a Dremel cut off wheel.
