FastForward automotive has CANBUS translators to fix those issues.
With a GTC1549VZ, boost is built right off idle, and full torque is available at 1,800 rpm. Which 2.0 did you have? You're the first person I've ever heard say that the Amarok is slow. If you had the single turbo version, you're only working with 138 hp; a far cry from the 225 I was suggesting. If you were driving the twin turbo model, then perhaps your motor had issues?
That being said, I would still recommend the V6 TDI over just about any other option, save for the BMW td out of the 328d or the new EPA certified 4cyl Cummins, who's name escapes me right now.
