Is there any difference between PZJ and the HZJ other than the cylinder?

PZJ is more of a 'medium duty' cruiser. 5/6ths the engine, I think they use the R151 transmission, not the H55. Also, I don't think they have the full floater rear axle, but don't quote me on that.

HZJ is heavy duty, PZJ medium duty, LJ light duty. Thats how I see it anyhow.

looks like this one has a FF, but your right on with the trany, R151

Thank you for the explanation, glad to know I wasn't too far off.
How about the 13BT and BJ, how do they fit on the duty scale?
(obvious question for most, just trying to learn)

Thank you,

Nelson

I wouldn't classify a 1pz as "medium duty". Granted, it doesn't have the same torque as its 1hz big brother, but it's definitely got more power than a 3b or 13bt. It's my understanding that the 1pz was developed to replace the 3b platform so that parts could be interchanged from the 1hz, which would make sense since both the 1pz and 1hz were used for industrial purposes, such as mining trucks. I've seen lots of 1hz motors with r151 transmissions behind them too.

this is a good start......but even then it gets messy ;)

It appears Mr. Toyota considers the PZJ77 and the HZJ77 to both be heavy duty Land Cruisers.
