PWR and 2nd Button not engaging

Hi guys,
I did a search on this and found only threats explaining what PWR and 2nd do but nothing related to trouble shooting.

I bought my 06 LC back in August/September 2012. I have not had a chance to really drive it till the end of November, and so far I love the 100.
It's more than what I was expecting.

I have started to add some mods to my liking and fix the smaller details.
Amongst the things I would like to get to fix is the PWR and 2nd button.
I have not disassembled the center console to check if the buttons are just disconnected, but before I do that I want to seek some insight into what to look for to fix this.

When I press either button they don't do anything nor the indicator lights activate in the instrument cluster.

Any suggestions before I start pulling my center console apart?

I'd betcha its just unplugged from below if both functions are inop on an otherwise happy A750F.

I just pulled up my center console yesterday. Easy as pie. Just carefully pull it up and gently pry around its edges. Be sure to unplug heated seats and other electronics before lifting up too much.

I had this problem on my 2001 LX 470. I lifted the center consol, unplugged everything, then pushed the PWR/2nd button up and out of the consol. I took it inside to the workbench and started cleaning it up:

-use micro screwdrivers to remove the white circular light retainer... a half turn counterclockwise unlocks it. Then remove it with a small pick/tweezer.

-Use two micro flat head screwdrivers to remove the case around the button. Careful while removing the case: there is a small metal spring that can pop out (it's the spring that makes the button return to the unpressed position).
-Clean everything with a suitable parts cleaner (I used rubbing alcohol, but there is certainly something better).
-Use lithium grease or electronic lubricant to relube the inside
-check continuity with a micro-meter
-reassemble
-go back to the vehicle and clean the wiring harness end with some alcohol (or better cleaner that you've got)
-plug it back in & presto!

For my LX, this removed the caked on latte that the previous owner had christened it with.

Bumping this up. My 100 sat for a week and when I got in to drive it my pwr function wasn't working. 2nd button worked fine. Any ideas?

Is there anything that might have spilled on the switch? It might be just sticky. The console is very easy to remove and there was a lot of stuff to clean up under mine.

My 2nd button only comes on (light) intermittently. I'm thinking spills or a loose connect. Thanks for the step by step(s) above.

A PO of my truck obviously spilled some sort of soda on the center console at some point - I ended up pulling the switches out (they're very easy to get to) and cleaning them with contact cleaner (Deoxit) and alcohol - now they're like new.

To add my .02, it's as @OregonLC describes. Both my lights were non-op when pushing the buttons and they were also tacky as if PO had spilled something in there. Sure enough, removed center console and the switch was merely unplugged. However, I did clean the button up a bit with a damp cloth to reduce the gumminess of the button. It now works perfectly, both PWR and 2ND.

To anyone suffering from the aforementioned symptoms, definitely check to see if unplugged. Stealership wanted to replace the entire button assembly outright!

Whilst on the subject of spills and switches I came across some photos of an AHC switch group that had failed due to spill induced chronic corrosion - point being that not only do sodas and juice drinks gum up switches but their inherent acidity will damage circuit boards too.

How hard is it to pull the center console?

Curiosity got the better of me after reading about the buttons and now the PWR button is stuck on. The 2nd Button didn't latch in the bottom/on position, but the buttons seem pretty gummy so I'm going to need to get them cleaned up some how.

Very easy. Just pull up, trim removal tools will help and not scratch the plastic.
