This may be a weird one and definitely just something I want to see if anyone has done.

I just want to see if anyone has put the rear axle out of a 1998-2000 100 series in an 80, for the sole purpose of the rear factory locker. From what ive researched, the wheelbase is the same, suspension items such as the coils and some of the linkages are the same, or close enough to be reused. The axle splines are different but that doesn't seem to hard to fab up an adapter. Just seeing if anyone has done it, or knows someone who has. It just seems a little more feasible to do in a driveway, or on the cheap off a wrecked 100, than locking the factory diff in a shop or whatnot.

Are used locked 100 axles that much more common than used locked 80 axles?

Not sure what you mean when you talk about fabbing up an adapter because of the axle spline difference? How would that work? And why?

Wheelbase of the rig is totally irrelevant for an axle swap.

Mark...

5 lug, vs 6.
semi-float vs full float.

I would not do this swap if it was me.

if you want to lock it, get a lunchbox locker like an aussie locker, or go full on ARB.

IMHO it's a downgrade to a semi float. Buy an Air Locker or E-Locker instead.

Plus, 100series use 5 studs, not 6. You'd have to also change the front hubs to 5 studs.

You could swap the centre only. But, if your goal is an easy swap in the driveway, this ain't that.
If 100 series uses the same centre as a 105series ( not certain, you'd need to verify), the diff gears are stronger.
You'd have to modify your housing to allow for the locked centre to fit.
And, you'd need custom made axles as the 100/105 series uses larger 32 spline axles.

So, yeah, just put a locker in it

Gearing is different on early 100s too I believe. 4.30 98-02.

Thank you to everyone who responded, definitely learned a couple things, definitely made it a more daunting thing than I thought. Oh well, i guess ill just get a locker. Shops that do axles where i am are few and far between.

Could always order a fully set up diff from east coast gear supply.
