You won't be unhappy with an OME medium... unless you ride around in an 80 with one of the more modern lifts. Ignorance is bliss.

You can buy just springs and get whatever shocks you want, i went with fox ifp to save money. Still wasnt cheap but not 1500 or more either. Icon shocks are what ups the cost. Springs were like 600~UGH I just cannot justify spending that much on a lift, but I need something. I really need a few more inches.

I ended up talking with mike and he talked me into their 2" springs and I picked up the Icon 0-3" lift shocks. I figure if its still not high enough I will add some .5" spring spacers.
285/75R16 KO2'sNice level stance with plenty of lift. What size tires? Thanks.

Here is a picture of the 2" progressive dobinsons with 0-3" 2.5 Icon shocks
@Starlord at that price range did you consider Kings instead of Icons? And are they night and day? my 80 is my only car and I want it to transform into a spaceship if I buy the really fancy stuff.
I have OME 2.5 mediums and am going to upgrade the shocks. Kings are 0-2" or 3-5", so I'm not sure a)which shock size and b) whether new springs are necessary. I have a pretty heavy truck (ARB bumper, 12k winch, drawers, sliders), but it does not seem overloaded.
I spoke with a reputable 80 landcruiser expert who for ride quality suggested addressing it in this order:
1) bushings
2) shocks
3) springs
Now that I'm looking at pricey shocks I'm reaching next level confusion over whether to keep springs or change and step up / down in lift. Probably down or 2" range since I daily drive and park in a city garage.
