Hey guys,

I need to pull the rear window on a '85-86 mini-truck. I've never done any glass work, and have no idea how to go about it. I've been told that gasketed windows like these can simply be pushed out from the inside, but the one I need removed is a 3-piece window(slider window), and I think it might get damaged if that method were used. The truck is immobile, so taking it to someone is not going to happen, and since this is a project truck, I don't really wanna spend the $$ to have a glass guy come pull it for me.

Thanks,

Ary

Didn't ever pull the one on the 81, but it is indeed a push out window. You might pick up one of those handy little glass tools, it would help quite a bit. IF you are being careful, the trick is to get the rubber off the frame without torquieng the window too much, and then work it all the way around until you have the sides and the top free, then lift the window and rubber off the bottom.

Good luck,
Dan

Go with Dan's advice. I put the bumper on my ATV through the back window of my '85 :o. A slider replacement was only $110, so don't sweat it too much. Just push it out from the inside. To put it back in, run a 1/4" rope around the gasket (already on the window), have someone push from the outside of the truck and use the rope to pull the gasket through the window. Good luck!

Got Cinder Block? :D

It really helps if it's in a warm garage, the gasket is a lot more pliable. Have a buddy stand behind the cab to catch it, sit inside and gradually fold the gasket out thru the hole in the cab. It's easier than it looks.
